Assistant Store Manager
The Assistant Store Manager, with direction from the Store Manager, is responsible for the overall wellbeing of their customers, staff and store. They assist in overseeing all operations in all departments verifying accuracy, compliance, safety, security and moral, while maintaining and growing revenue. Store Manager and Assistant Store Managers are responsible for handling all business functions in a compliant manner according to state law and the rules set forth by the Liquor and Cannabis Board, as well as all other government agencies. Assistant Store Managers assist in the responsibility of employee performance and conduct. The Assistant Store Manager is in direct communication with the Store Manager regarding all aspects of their responsibilities.
Employee Management
The Assistant Store Manager assists the Store Manager in being accountable for all staff performance and ensuring all policies and procedures are upheld. The Assistant Store Manager must create a positive and safe work environment for all staff members. The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for fluent and frequent communication with staff, whether that be negative or positive, including preparing and delivering annual employee reviews. All actions regarding Human Resources, not clearly defined by store policy, must first be discussed and approved through the Management Team prior to taking any action. Negative feedback may include; verbal and written write ups, termination, performance improvement plans, suspensions, staff and customer conflicts, etc. Positive feedback may include employee recognition, birthdays, meeting sales goals, people exceling in their daily tasks, ensuring employee safety and wellbeing, etc. The Assistant Store Manager inquires and acts upon employee needs and ideas. The Assistant Store Manager must be prepared to support their staff on and off shift, including mandatory covering of shifts not filled by alternate staff. They must also be available to their staff, on or off shift, for issues or questions that may arise. They are responsible for problem solving all issues regarding their staff. The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for direct communication with all staff members regarding policy changes and handbook addendums and ensuring follow through, training and support.
Hiring
Assistant Store Manager plays an active role in hiring new team members by reviewing resumes, discussing potential interviews with the Management Team and participating in interviews.
Compliance
Assistant Store Manager must be up to date and well versed in all aspects of compliance per the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board. This includes compliance regarding products, store signage and requirements regarding displays, employee compliance including proper verbiage and communication with customers and all other aspects of compliance. This includes but is not limited to: ensuring all products that are received, ordered, sold and stored fall within the legal boundaries, badges are always worn and visitor logs are filled out properly in full, staff members are upholding their responsibilities regarding selling limits, verbiage and restrictions, etc.
Building Operations and Maintenance
Assistant Store Managers assist the Store Manager in being responsible for communicating issues with the store to the Management Team, as well as performing regular maintenance duties including but not limited to: technical issues with utilities, security systems, telecommunications, problems with building structure, plumbing or electrical, store front/appearance, etc.
General Store Oversite
The Assistant Store Manager is responsible for knowing and upholding all Company policies in all departments. The success of the store is the responsibility of the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager. They are responsible for knowing and upholding all Company policies in all departments.
Store Manager
The Assistant Store Manager takes direction from the Store Manager. The Assistant Store Manager assists in most aspects of the Store Manager’s duties. They are responsible for holding the Store Manager to the same standards to which all other staff are held. Some circumstances may arise where the Assistant Store Manager will have to contact the Management Team regarding the Store Manager’s performance, whether this be negative or positive. All other matters regarding general staff and store feedback will go to the Store Manager and then be brought to the Management Team either by the Store Manager or together.
Inventory
The Assistant Store Manager assists in the responsibility of ensuring all job duties are performed by each Inventory Team member. The Assistant Store Manager must be fully trained and comfortable with all inventory policies, processes and procedures. They are responsible for assisting the Inventory Manager with the intake of product, manifesting and storing products as requested. The Store Manager with support from the Assistant Store Manager, holds the Inventory Team accountable for fulfilling their duties and ensures their responsibilities are being upheld as set forth by their job descriptions, policies, procedures and processes put in place by the Line of Business Owner on the Management Team. The Assistant Store Manager in certain circumstances may need to fill in for the role of the Inventory Manager, Inventory Assistant and/or Inventory Merchandiser in the event of an absence.
Cash Handling
Store and Assistant Store Managers are responsible for the performance and accuracy of all Cash Handlers. They must be fully trained and comfortable with all cash handling procedures, as well as reconciling, recording and viewing daily data to stay informed on the performance of all till owners, cash handlers, store revenue and accuracy. The Store Manager with support from the Assistant Store Manager, holds the Cash Handlers accountable for fulfilling their duties, and ensures their responsibilities are being upheld as set forth by their job descriptions, policies, procedures and process put in place by the Line of Business Owner on the Management Team. The Assistant Store Manager in certain circumstances may need to fill in for the role of a Cash Handler in the event of an absence.
Office Manager
The Assistant Store Manager assists the Store Manager in being responsible for the performance, compliance and organization of the Office Manager. They must be fully trained and comfortable with all Office Management procedures and policies. The Store Manager with support from the Assistant Store Manager, holds the Office Manager responsible for their duties and ensures their responsibilities are being upheld by the person filling that role. The Assistant Store Manager in certain circumstances may need to fill in for the role of the Office Manager in the event of an absence.
Scheduler
The Assistant Store manager may be responsible for covering shifts if coverage cannot be found and the Store Manager is unavailable.
Purchasing
The Assistant Store Manager working hand-in-hand with the Store Manager and Inventory Manager, may be responsible for communicating positive or negative feedback, or any other pertinent information regarding vendors to the Purchaser.
Medical
The Assistant Store Manager assists the Store Manager in being responsible for the performance, organization and compliance of the Medical Lead and Medical Consultants. They must be fully trained and comfortable with all Medical procedures. The Store Manager with support from the Assistant Store Manager, holds the Medical staff accountable for fulfilling their duties, and ensures their responsibilities are being upheld as set forth by their job descriptions, policies, procedures and process put in place by the Management Team. The Assistant Store Manager in certain circumstances may need to fill in for the role of a Medical Consultant in the event of an absence.
Shift Lead
The Assistant Store Manager assists the Store Manager in being responsible for the performance, compliance and organization of the Shift Leads. They must be fully trained and comfortable with all Shift Lead procedures. The Store Manager with support from the Assistant Store Manager, holds the Shift Leads accountable for fulfilling their duties, and ensures their responsibilities are being upheld as set forth by their job descriptions, policies, procedures and process put in place by the Management Team. The Assistant Store Manager in certain circumstances may need to fill in for the role of a Shift Lead in the event of an absence. They are in constant communication with the Shift Leads to stay updated on Sales Associate performance.
Sales Associate
The Assistant Store Manager working hand-in-hand with the Store Manager and Shift Leads, is responsible for the performance, organization, compliance and customer service of the Sales Associates. They must be fully trained and comfortable with all Sales Associate procedures. The Store Manager with support from the Assistant Store Manager oversees Sales Associate performance through their Shift Leads, ensuring Sales Associate responsibilities are being upheld. The Assistant Store Manager in certain circumstances may need to fill in for the roles of a Sales Associate in the event of an absence.
Management Team
The Assistant Store Manager takes direction from the Store Manager. They assist in most aspects of the Store Manager’s duties. Hiring Requirements
Qualified applicants will have at least two years’ experience in a supervisor or management role or possess obvious professional and leadership skills. They must have a highly developed knowledge of office management responsibilities and must demonstrate flawless organization. They must have the ability to learn new technical systems at a fast pace, as well as already maintaining proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite applications. They must have experience and be knowledgeable in conflict resolution, clerical practices and procedures, and basic business management principals. A qualified applicant will be confident in their ability to problem solve and plan. The Assistant Store Manager must maintain a neutral, fair and ethical disposition towards all decisions made and parties involved. Prior Industry experience is required, as is an ability to uphold I502 regulations. Qualified applicants must possess excellent time management skills and the ability to multitask and prioritize work. They must possess an uplifting and positive energy, and exhibit ethical professionalism, at all times, including in their written and verbal communications. They must have the ability to absorb and follow policy, process, procedure and compliance.
This is a Salaried position requiring at least 40 hours per week, likely more. Clocking in and out is required. Compensation depends on experience. The Assistant Store Manager must be willing to work evening shifts and weekends dependent on store hours. Schedule will be based around covering hours the Store Manager is not working. The schedule will be mostly consistent, in the event there are no additional shifts needing coverage. There will be overlapping shifts periodically with the Store Manager for collaboration and communication on all store functions.
Professional appearance and presentation are required.
Must be able to sit and/or stand 8+ hours and lift 30+ lbs. Ladder use may be needed. Periodic travel may be required.
Must be 21+ to qualify.
Additional endorsements will not be available to Assistant Store Managers, although they are required to become endorsed in all roles. They must understand and follow each role’s policies, processes and procedures in the event they need to fill in.
Assistant Store Managers are required to complete their Washington State Medical Consultant Certification. If a hired applicant does not already possess their Certification, they are required to complete the 20-hour training program, complete their CPR certification and submit all aspects of the application process within 3 months of hiring with a minimum of 7 hours per month dedicated to the course work. They are required to keep their Certification valid through further education and renewal prior to expiration.
