Grower – Kumbaya, LLC
This Grower position operates a Oregon Tilth Certified Organic greenhouse facility and works directly with the Manager of Kumbaya as well as and a contract labor growing team that is assigned to an area of crop production within the greenhouse. The position is responsible for water management, crop nutrition, pest and disease monitoring, pest control applications, and for the oversite and execution of assigned plant management activities. Communication skills, organization, teamwork, attention to detail, attention to safety protocols, and exceptional time management skills, are critical to the success of this position within the organization.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Monitoring of crop development and crop pest control.
- Scouting, tracking, and controlling insect and disease related issues using integrated pest management (IPM) practices
- Monitoring nutrient status and soil moisture in assigned crops in order to maintain healthy crops.
- Apply pesticides and biological pest controls.
- Plant propagation, transplanting, spacing, harvesting and cleaning.
- Pesticide and fertilizer record Management.
- Schedule and supervise crop rotation.
- Communicate tasks as directed to growing team.
- General Labor tasks as required.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment
- All other duties as assigned
Skills/Qualifications:
- Associates Degree or Bachelors’ Degree in in any field of Horticulture/Agriculture/Botany/Biology or any other related field
- Experience in organic Greenhouse Horticulture/Agricultural production
- Spanish fluency is required
- Excellent verbal communications skills
- High energy, self-motivation, and willingness to learn
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Team-oriented
- QAL, QAC or PCA license
- CCA license is a plus
Additional requirements include:
- Reliable transportation to and from work
- Excellent attendance
- Ability to stand, climb, squat, bend, twist, and stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to occasionally lift 35-50 pounds
- Willing to work flexible and long hours during peak season, with weekends required
