About Role:
As an Assistant Grower at AppHarvest, you will be joining a team at the forefront of reinventing sustainable agriculture by assisting with the management of growing operations for AppHarvest 30-acre hydroponic controlled-environment agriculture facility in Berea, KY.
What You'll Do:
- Assists with growing produce commodities.(Strawberry / Cucumbers)
- Works with the Grow team to plan and execute crop work.
- Ensures crop work is completed on time and within quality requirements.
- Works with IPM team to manage pest and disease control.
- Assists in fertilization, irrigation, and climate control needs.
- Interprets measured data from crop and climate registration.
- Validates scouting reports to confirm accuracy and reliability.
- Assists with the timely implementation of management's plant health plan directives.
- Performs soil, water, and disease tests as needed.
- Facilitates trials of new products prior to use within the facility.
- Ensures on-time placement of product orders for scouting needs.
- Maintains up to date records and reports.
- Provides support for and adheres to food and health safety standards.
What We're Looking For:
- Degree in Chemistry, Horticulture, or Agriculture or equivalent experience.
- Minimum three years' experience in horticulture.
- Management experience is a plus.
- Bilingual / Spanish is a plus
- Knowledge of horticultural pests, diseases, and safety standards identification.
- Experience in greenhouse growing facilities preferred.
- Knowledge of PRIVA and experience with technical greenhouse systems is a plus.
- Stand, walk, twist, bend, sit, enter data into a computer, and / or frequently lift objects up to 55 pounds (may require sustained repetitive motion)

- Assist the Head Grower in executing the crop management plan including but not limited to ensuring daily completion of Pre-Op and Post-Op activities, maintaining up-to-date records and reports; interpreting measured data from crop and climate registrations; performing water and diseases tests as needed; assisting in fertilization, irrigation and climate control needs; working with the IPM team to manage pest and disease control, facilitating trials of new products; and supervising and executing annual activities including the planting of new crops, cleanout and crop-turn.
- Partner with Food and Environmental safety leaders to ensure hygiene, cleanliness, pest, disease, and equipment protocols are adhered to by all team members.

About Role:
You will lead a team responsible for 30 acres of AppHarvest’s 60-acre controlled environment agriculture facility in Morehead, KY. The position reports to the Head Grower and will be responsible for developing and training a team of Assistant Growers, Supervisors and Crop Care Specialists.
What You’ll Do:
- Oversee the training of new employees and techniques.
- Verify that recordkeeping of growing techniques, labor usage and costs are maintained for review with opportunities for improvement identified.
- Manage and lead a staff focused on the growth, care, and maintenance of the facility’s horticulture.
- Confirm the effective management of pest and disease control, using biological control measures.
- Consult with leadership regarding future yield targets.
- Participate in budget preparation and develop a growing plan to meet production goals.
- Ensure that growing schedules maximize production yield while minimizing expenses.
- Coordinate with the Head Grower to plan and execute crop work.
- Consult with Assistant Growers on matters including crop and climate registration data, scouting reports, food safety regulations compliance, health safety standards compliance, and the implementation of plant health plan directives.
- Manage fertilization, irrigation, and climate control needs.
- Ensure the administration of soil, water, and disease tests as necessary and confirm that
- proper follow-up actions are taken.
- Work with Assistant Growers to maintain inventory of growing supplies.

About the Role:
As a Grower, you will assist with the management of growing operations for AppHarvest’s 60-acre hydroponic controlled-environment agriculture facility.
What You’ll Do:
- Assist in all aspects of the production process, including integrated pest management, climate management, crop maintenance, and labor planning and scheduling.
- Assist in managing greenhouse climate control systems.
- Assist in crop inspections, removing substandard or diseased plants to maintain quality standards.
- Maintain current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies.
- Monitor the working environment to ensure compliance with company and statutory hygiene, health and safety standards, as well as policies and procedures.
- Report food safety and quality problems to authorized personnel.
- Ensure all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), standard operating procedures (SOPs), and policies are followed.
- Climate management including daily and weekly plans/actions.
- Determine and monitor climate control system settings using Priva software for heating, venting, watering, and lighting.
- Oversee crop nutrition, including weekly and longer-term nutrition strategies for all stages of the crop cycle.
- Direct pest and disease management, including recommending and implementing weekly and long-term control strategies, incorporating integrated pest management (IPM).
- Manage water resources, including daily and weekly plans/actions, as well as operational troubleshooting of water systems and equipment.
- Monitor labor management and performance in conjunction with Growers and Supervisors.
- Lead and participate in projects to improve quality, safety, performance, and yield.
- Ensure adherence to safety, quality, and hygiene key performance indicators (KPIs), as well as policies and procedures.

Qualifications:
- Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in horticulture or related field or between two and five years of controlled-environment agriculture industry work experience.
- Experience with fertilizers, chemicals, and water, including calculation of amounts, proportions, percentages, and volume for application.
- Knowledge of major plant groups and their culture and growth traits.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), health and safety, food safety, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP), and the PrimusGFS program.
- Identification of plant diseases and the existence of insects.
- Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to train team members and interact with all levels of the organization.

- Conditions typically found in a greenhouse with high humidity and varying temperatures (50 degrees Fahrenheit to 99 degrees Fahrenheit) and background noise approaching 70 decibels.
