Position Description The Leafy G r eens Grower is accountable for establishing, monitoring, and controlling the best growing conditions for Leafy Green crops. Manages and leads staff engaged in the growing, care and maintenance of the crops.
Directs the application of technical procedures, timing and metering devices that control frequency, amount, and type of nutrient applications; regulate humidity, ventilation, temperature, amount of light; and dispense fertilizers and p esticides.Monitors crop development and sets strategies for maximizing weekly and cycle output. Responsibilities Define the growing strategy for each product, from seed to harvest. Adapt the growing strategy to each location. Make diagnostics and provide recommendations to the General Managers/Agronomists.
Assess the growing strategy and implement changes. Conduct trainings as needed. Required Skills, Abilities and Qualifications Minimum of 5 years' experience in growing leafy greens/leaf lettuce in a greenhouse environment. Ensure effective climate control to maximize quality and yield.
Meet goals in terms of quantity and quality. Trained and experience in a variety of growing techniques. Knowledge of effective use of fertilizers and pesticides. Mentor and train Jr.
Growers and other greenhouse employees. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Preferred Skills, Abilities and Qualifications Experience with other types of produce: tomat oes, cucumbers, peppers, etc. Educational Requirements Bachelor's Degree in Plant Science, Greenhouse Horticulture, Agronomy desired, but not required.
