This Tax Supervisor role will be focused on our clients within the cannabis industry. You'll work alongside an integrated team of seasoned, well-known CPAs and industry leaders. In this position, you will take a lead role on all aspects of audit engagements, from planning to completion, to include supervision/mentoring of staff and building/maintaining relationships with clients.

How you'll spend your time:
- Active involvement in consulting services to these entrepreneurial companies in establishing operations, structure of entities and assisting in preparation of forecasts and projections.
- Consult with clients on unique cannabis topics including: costing of inventory, Sections 280E and 471 compliance and structuring transactions and entities.
- Assessing the tax efficiency of client’s cost of goods sold values and other production costs
- Advising clients on structuring M&A Activity, both on the buy or sell side of the transaction
- Researching opportunities for reducing tax obligations through cost segregation and credits (energy, R&D and incentives)
- Consulting with clients on multi-state and local tax matters
- Overseeing the preparation of various Federal and State tax filings
- Network with other industry representatives to promote our brand in this tight knit sector
- Researching relevant and often unique tax issues and resolutions/recommendations for those issues
- Identifying tax planning opportunities for stakeholder
- Staying abreast of developments and changes in Federal, state and local laws
- Develop tax planning strategies for owners and senior management in an effort to create wealth
- Conduct constructive discussions with team members on their evaluations and providing constructive counsel
- Training and supervision of staff accountants

- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Master of Science in Taxation is preferred
- CPA License (preferred) or plan to obtain license
- At least 3 years of public accounting experience

QUALIFICATIONS
- 3+ years of previous public accounting experience.
- Successful candidate should have CPA or on a timeline of obtaining within a reasonable amount of time from date of hire.
- Ability to research and resolve complex issues with minimal oversight.
- Experience in planning and supervising larger engagement, previous tax return preparation experience is required.
- Solid research and writing skills, excellent verbal communication and presentation skills and the ability to interact with all levels of staff and clients.
- A competent working knowledge of accounting, auditing and tax software is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Responsible for preparing, reviewing, and/or executing assigned tax returns and accounting/consulting projects, working directly with Partners and Senior Managers
- Complete moderately complex projects accurately, thoroughly, and efficiently
- Supervising and leading members of our internal team to ensure client engagements and projects are delivered in a timely manner
- Participate with more experienced personnel in coordinating large client engagements, identification of problems, tax law and computer model analysis and helping clients determine optimal strategies
- Continually participate in professional and personal development, including appropriate technical trainings

Required Skills
Duties include but not limited to:
Research tax issues and filing requirements that affect tax compliance.
Review tax returns and ensure accuracy and completeness.
Research complex tax issues using internal revenue code, treasury regulations and other relevant authorities/guidance.
Draft tax technical memorandums.
Serve as the Engagement Manager on specific client accounts, taking responsibility for pre-engagement planning, execution, and final deliverable development.
Identify opportunities to expand the scope of current engagements through identification of current client needs and target client requirements.
Actively participate in proposal development, at the direction of management, and take a lead role responding to requests for proposal.
Provide regular performance feedback as well as deliver timely performance evaluations.
Develop subordinates' technical and industry skills and encourage growth.
Demonstrate initiative, vision, resourcefulness, creativity and independent thinking. Lead by example.
Required Experience:
Education: BS/BA accounting preferred; MST preferred, CPA required
Minimum of 3-7 years tax experience in a public accounting; Cannabis, M&D, or Agriculture tax experience preferred
- Heavy Partnership and Corp experience preferred
Demonstrated writing skills a must; proposal development experience desired
Demonstrated management skills.
Strong tax research and writing skills
Proven competence with MS Office and tax compliance and research software
Solid organizational skills with a demonstrated ability to multi-task
