Assistant Grower
Full time (non-exempt)
Commensurate with Experience
The Assistant Grower is responsible for following standard operating procedures to support the development of plants to the desired size and quality through all stages of cannabis growth, including propagation, vegetative, flowering, harvest, and post-harvest processing. This position will provide care and support for plant cultivation, abiding by policies, procedures, and operational guidelines. The Assistant Grower may also be cross-trained to support other areas within the Grow/Process facility. This position will be located at our facility in Duncannon.
Key responsibilities include:
- Perform tasks in the grow cycle to support production of the highest yielding plants including, but not limited to, sowing, potting, thinning, weeding, transplanting, and moving plans.
- Identify plant pests and other issues; act before a problem develops to ensure plant health.
- Maintain a clean environment by removing and disposing of all cannabis waste, cleaning, and sanitizing all rooms and tools used daily; contribute to and support overall facility cleanliness as directed/needed.
- Execute all activities in the veg, flower, and propagation rooms; immediately escalate issues/areas of concern to a supervisor.
- Under direction from the Lead Cultivation Technician, track and record required room data.
- Assist the harvest and post-processing procedure, including harvest, defoliation, drying, trimming, curing, and other post-harvest related processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess:
- High school diploma or GED required; demonstrated experience in legal cannabis cultivation or working in a commercial production facility or greenhouse.
- Prior experience in large scale greenhouse or plant cultivation setting preferred.
- Prior experience with vegetable or plant production preferred.
- Ability to complete basic math calculations.
- Demonstrated attention to detail with advanced knowledge of and strict adherence to safety and sanitation protocols in a production environment.
- Ability to recognize issues associated with pest and disease.
- Understanding of regulations related to the Pennsylvania medical cannabis program, including MJ Freeway.
- Effective communications skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong work ethic with a wiliness to learn.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks for long periods of time (ex. trimming plants, potting, etc.) in a fast-paced, production focused environment.
Physical Requirements of the Position
This is a labor-intensive position, working in a production environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, and hear. The employee is required to walk, stand for extended periods of time, and crouch/stoop. The employee will be required to use hands and fingers to operate, handle, and/or feel objects, tools, and/or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee will be required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. The employee must be physically capable of performing manual labor tasks required for the proper management of grow facility, including meeting activity performance counts, lifting/carrying product totes, pushing carts, moving and making adjustments to equipment, etc. Will be required to wear varying degrees of personal protective equipment for specific tasks (some tasks require partial PPE; some will require full PPE). Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.
