The Arizona Department of Agriculture is currently recruiting for an Agriculture Inspector III position for the HEMP Program in our Plant Services Division. The position is located in the Phoenix office however you will be required to travel in-state to conduct inspections.
JOB SUMMARY:
The primary responsibilities will be to assist the Agriculture Inspector IVs in investigations, conduct inspections and sample industrial hemp crops. Follows procedures and policies to administer the Industrial Hemp Program (program). Performs a variety of job duties during the inspection and certification process to determine compliance with program requirements, including sample collection and submission to an accredited lab for compliance testing. May serve as a courier for the distribution of certified industrial hemp seed for licensees under an agricultural pilot program for industrial hemp. Authorized to transport Cannabis spp. plant samples for program compliance. Conducts inspections and develops reports used to determine eligibility of industrial hemp program applicants. Audits the documentation and reports of industrial hemp licensees for program compliance. Directly communicates with applicants and licensees regarding the program including application approvals/denials, program violations, disposition of a crop in violation and audit results. Enforces and upholds the statues and rules related to the regulation of industrial hemp. Performs investigative duties associated with violations. The position requires you to travel in-state and overnight stays to complete compliance inspections; you will be required to drive a state vehicle to conduct state business and other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs):
Knowledge of:
Federal, State and agency laws, rules, regulations and standards governing industrial hemp and state authorized industrial hemp programs.
Techniques and methods of inspecting and sample collection and submission of industrial hemp samples for program compliance.
Enforcement of laws specific to agricultural/horticultural industries.
Practices and procedures (including safety) within the work environment.
Practices and procedures of inspection standards and authorized enforcement guidelines.
GIS, data information systems, and general computer applications.
General principles and practices of the cultivation, harvesting, and processing of industrial hemp.

SPECIAL SELECTION FACTOR(S):
Requires possession of and the ability to retain a current Arizona driver’s license. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving record and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12)

SELECTIVE PREFERENCES:
Minimum of two (2) years’ experience equivalent to an Agricultural Inspector II or combination of agricultural/horticultural work experience and college course work in related field.

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS).
