JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Assistant Director, Health Promotion and Wellness

Health Promotion and Wellness (HPW) is seeking an Assistant Director (Student Services Associate 3) to provide creative, energetic, and strategic leadership for prevention and wellness initiatives, including alcohol and drug prevention and intervention efforts. HPW provides health promotion services, programs, and health communication materials for a diverse group of students. The office is committed to supporting a safe and inclusive environment that fosters academic, social, cultural, and personal well-being. The Assistant Director reports to an Associate Director.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Oversee the delivery of individual health promotion and education services for alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco for students.

• Collaborate with colleagues within Student Affairs (e. g., Residence Life, Office of Student Accountability and Conflict Response and Counseling and Psychological Services) to ensure high quality services.

• Supervise five full-time staff who deliver health promotion and education services for alcohol, marijuana, and tobacco for students.

• Recruit and train new staff when needed.

• Assist with and provide leadership for research-based wellness and health promotion initiatives, including alcohol and drug-related initiatives.

• Coordinate and conduct alcohol education workshops for fraternities, sororities, student organizations, and academic classes.

• Assist with the implementation of Penn State Safe & Aware, an online educational module about alcohol and sexual misconduct.

• Serve on and actively participate in committees such as the HPW Leadership Team, the Coalition to Address Relationship and Sexual Violence. the Committee for Substance Awareness and Prevention, and other committees as requested.

• Complete other duties as assigned.

Typical Education and Experience Requirements:

• Typically requires a Master's degree or higher

• Three years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Preferred Education, Experience, or Certifications:

• Knowledge of and experience with the Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students (BASICS) program and cannabis-related screening and intervention for college students

• Knowledge of and experience with Motivational interviewing

• Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or similar professional credential

Additional Required Competencies:

• A commitment to working with diverse populations is essential

• Ability to work with secure and confidential student information, including ability to work in an electronic medical record

• Ability to maintain high standards for evidence-based practice set by relevant professional organizations

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook)

• Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills are essential

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• Ethical decision-making

• Ability to be a flexible and collaborative team member
