As a Staff Writer, your role is to create and collaborate on content to be supportive of our PR and SEO Account Managers and Coordinators. In this role, you will craft internal content for NisonCo in addition to external work for clients. This position is not client-facing, meaning you will need permission from Account Managers or Coordinators before communicating with any clients, and the AMs and ACs also own the pitching process/journalist relationships. You are expected to join weekly team calls and check-ins to coordinate with your colleagues. Being communicative, organized and deadline-driven is essential to this role.
Your work will support the organization as a whole as you become a specialized writing expert in various topic areas and styles. The writing team exists to bring our creative content to the next level, and help collaborate across teams. As a representative of the leading PR and SEO firm for emerging industries, your writing will directly work to shape the ways these industries begin thinking, writing and speaking about various burgeoning subjects.

Support Writer: Aids Account Managers, Account Coordinators & Thought Leaders

Strategize conference, speaker and award applications with aid of the Research Team and AM/AC.

SF WEEKLY STAFF WRITER (30 hours per week)
San Francisco’s award-winning cultural, literary and alternative weekly digital and print publication is seeking a part-time staff writer with a wide range of storytelling experience, and versatility to provide thought-provoking, in-depth news coverage capturing the fabric of San Francisco and the many issues confronting the city.
This is an opportunity for a journalist to join a fast-paced, creative and fun work environment located in the heart of San Francisco.
- Working with the SF Weekly Editor, produce a mix of in-depth cover stories and more breaking news content for the digital and print platforms of SF Weekly
- Provide a steady stream of compelling stories and creative ideas to special sections covering arts, music, food, neighborhoods, legacy businesses and more
- Develop sources to help with the reporting of stories that set SF Weekly apart from other San Francisco Bay Area publications.
- Occasionally contribute content to SF Evergreen, a monthly publication covering the cannabis industry
- Collaborate with the rest of the SF Weekly team, including other writers, the art director and photographer in executing stories, projects, multimedia work and finding ways to illustrate stories
- Contribute ideas and posts to the publications’ robust social media presence, including Instagram, Facebook and Twitter
- Build a social media presence and following
- Collaborate with editors and writers of other San Francisco Media Co. publications
The ideal candidate must be a versatile writer who demonstrates exceptional skills in reporting and storytelling and must also have experience in filing more breaking stories on deadline. An ideal candidate will have experience and comfort in distilling the most important issues facing a city like San Francisco, while understanding the point of view of an alternative publication. This is a position that will afford a great deal of opportunity and freedom to make it your own, but it carries a challenging workload.
Preference will be given to candidates who are social media savvy, and have a deep grasp of San Francisco’s many facets. Familiarity with coverage of the cannabis industry is a plus, along with editing, SEO experience, photography and video skills. Preference is typically given to local residents.
The candidate, of course, must have a sense of humor.
Experience with, or willingness to learn, InDesign, SEO, analytics, Photoshop, and Wordpress is a must, as is a willingness to learn a new content management system. An interest and understanding of local arts, music, nightlife and lifestyle is a plus.
