JOB SUMMARY:
Under general supervision, provides advanced skills in the performance of high complexity laboratory tests for the purpose of determining analytic purity and sterility within the scope of training and experience.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Lead the chemistry department as Senior scientist working in concert with the Laboratory Director with associated role and responsibilities defined below.
2. Performs/results laboratory tests within scope of training and experience with a high degree of proficiency.
3. Operates laboratory equipment, interfaces and instruments, performs and documents basic and advanced maintenance and complex calibration procedures. Serves as Key Operator for assigned instrument(s) as needed or directed.
4. Performs logging for QC/QA purposes. Collects and compiles QA data as directed. Monitors QC for trends and takes corrective action as needed or directed.
5. Performs all troubleshooting procedures. Identifies testing problems and recommends appropriate solutions using defined guidelines.
6. Coordinates and/or assists in preparing work schedules for department as directed.
7. Actively participates in preparation for regulatory inspections, taking responsibility for section and/or department as assigned.
8. Researches, evaluates and develops new assay technology and/or method development and validation activities for assigned tests or projects in collaboration with directors and technologists.
a) Research and develop assay protocols upon approval by Director.
b) Plan and perform assay and method validation.
c) Present cost analysis as directed
d) Write and edit SOPs for lab management approval.
e) Complete and submit IT System change request.
f) Complete projects within expected deadlines.

11. Participates in training new employees and students where appropriate, providing instruction and information. Tracks progress and assesses trainee competency.
12. Participates in taking inventory as needed or appropriate. Orders supplies for the Department as directed.
13. Identifies and reports abnormalities in results and test procedures. Troubleshoots as appropriate.
14. Handles hazardous materials and wastes in accordance with safety procedures and regulations.
