S/he will have responsibility for strategic planning, quality standards, regulatory compliance, SOPs and KPIs across all departments. As an ideal candidate, you will have exceptional leadership, communication, analytical, and organizational skills. You may have experience in the MMJ and or a related fields including Food & Beverage, Wine & Spirits, Gourmet Food, Cigars & Tobacco and will work closely with the lab technicians, extraction techs, production manager, fleet and logistic mangers/directors and all management within he company.
This role represents a unique opportunity to participate in the build-out and ground up structuring of all business strategies, procedures in both processing, safety and compliance with organizational development of a new and well funded growing company as a member of its senior executive team.
The location of the position will be based out of our headquarters in Santa Cruz CA.
Responsibilities
- Own and manage P&L and budget for the entirety of extraction / post processing / / fleet logistics / manufacturing activities, packaging, system integration, including all aspects of operations, safety and quality.
- Research, recommend and develop innovative solutions to continuously improve product quality, reduce manufacturing, distribution and operating costs, increase efficiency, and improve overall operations while maintaining state and local regulatory compliance.
- Provide and apply a current understanding of industry knowledge, best practices, supplier network capabilities, supply chain processing.
- Evaluate, improve, and establish SOPs and KPIs that align with best practices.
- Provide subject matter expertise for evaluation of best practices: manufacturing (including scheduling), data collection, equipment selection, packaging and automation.
- Ensure consistency and efficacy of product through quality control testing procedures.
- Establish procedures that optimize the efficiency of manufacturing facilities, allowing maximum utilization so that company resources will function at the highest level of productivity.
- Develop a Quality Control (SOP) and department to establish policies and protocols according to regulatory requirements.
- Manage, implement, and maintain necessary programs and processes for ISO 9001 compliance and cGMP compliance.

Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of progressive managerial experience in operations in the food manufacturing /processing, beverage/fruit juice processing, CPG, pharmaceutical, or other relevant industries.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Operations, Engineering or related applied science degree. Advanced degree preferred.
- Proven strategic experience in overseeing all aspects of a professional production laboratory environment.
- Experience in build-out facilities in a face paced rollout.
- Experience / exposure to cannabis or other product formulation and processing, post processing techniques, winterization, separation, isolation, product refinement, fractional distillation, etc.

Position Overview:
The Manager, Retail Operations is responsible for assisting the Area General Manager in interfacing, consulting with qualified patients and caregivers, and administering approved medical marijuana products. The Manager, Retail Operations oversees all activities related to the operation of the Dispensing Facility to include patient identification and registration, record retention, product tracking, and inventory control as directed by the Area General Manager.
Major Areas of Responsibility include:
- The Manager, Retail Operations ensures compliance with all Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program rules and regulations governing the Act, and directly supervises the activity within the dispensary to include dispensary staff training and education in the absence of the General Manager and as directed.
- Provides management and leadership in the Dispensing Facility to include monitoring all point of sale transactions.
- Manages patient-specific logs as required, the receipt, storage and auditing of all inventory, and is responsible for ordering new inventory and supplies, and maintaining accurate records using BioTrackTHC, the Dispensing Facility’s inventory tracking software program.
- As the responsible party at the Dispensing Facility, this position resolves all inventory discrepancies and patient-staff conflicts.
- The Manager, Retail Operations is responsible for the development of the Dispensing Facility’s privacy policies and procedures, the security and confidentiality of all patient information, and overall compliance with HIPAA.
- This position acts as a liaison internally between all staff, the dispensary management team, and the General Manager, and externally between the Dispensing Facility and law enforcement, the Commissioner of Health, and the local community.
- Directs and monitors department managers to accomplish goals of the plan, consistent with established safety procedures.
- Establishes methods to follow the operating plan in compliance with the Compassionate Use of Medical Cannabis Pilot Program, maintaining records required by public health law and ensures quality assurance plans, including but not limited to plans to detect, identify and prevent dispensing errors related to product packaging and labeling.
- Manages and implements policies and procedures for any retesting of returned approved medical marijuana products, storage and disposal and meeting reporting requirements for adverse events, and product recall.
- This position is responsible for assisting with implementing and maintaining security systems for tracking, record-keeping, record retention, and surveillance related to all product at every stage of storage, delivery, transporting, and distribution.
