Essential functions:
Technical
- Receive and accession samples into laboratory information management software (LIMS) and state of MI compliance software (Metrc).
- Removing samples from packaging, weigh, split and batch samples as needed for multiple downstream tests, and capture images.
- Follows routine tasks accurately and follows strict methodologies in order to carry out sample extractions.
- Follows and fulfills analytical preparation duties for various assays, including potency, terpenes, pesticides, mycotoxins, residual solvents, and microorganism analyses per laboratory SOPs.
- Interprets QA/QC and sample result data using basic math, interpretive, analytical skills
- Adheres to strict guidelines on documentation while recording data.
- Responsible for various laboratory support activities, including but not limited to, consumable and sample inventory, record-keeping, sample disposal, and cleaning.
- Completes routine preventive maintenance, cleaning, and troubleshooting on instruments and equipment.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with other scientists on validations, calibrations, and overall scientific maintenance on HPLC MS/MS; GC, GCMS and ICPMS instruments
- Performs other tasks as specified by the manager/director.
Compliance and Safety
- Ensures compliance with all regulatory agency requirements through documentation, audits, and corrective action.
- Participates in the development of new SOPs and validations.
- Performs quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of data.
- Participates in the updating of departmental standard operating procedures and database to accurately reflect the current practices.
- Participates in monitoring and auditing activities and investigations, and implementing quality improvement processes, as required.
- Maintains an updated understanding and knowledge of the methods employed in the laboratory.
- Complies with applicable legal requirements, standards, and procedures including, but not limited to, those within the Compliance Process, Code of Conduct, and State.
- Ensures timely and accurate reporting and responses to compliance-related issues and assists with implementation of corrective action plans related to such issues.
- Reports concerns and suspected incidences of non-compliance to the Compliance Officer and/or Lab Director.
Qualifications and Skills
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Bachelor's degree in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university is required with 0-1+ years of related experience. Candidates with experience with laboratory processing will be given preference OR Bachelor's degree in an unrelated field from an accredited college or university with 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience. New grads are encouraged to apply.
- Experience with separations science (LC, GC, MS, ICP) is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn new computer applications is essential. Experience working with a LIMS is preferred.

The Role
Every day in the lab, our team works the magic of distillation, extraction, winterization, and the production of our cannabis-infused products. The Lab Technician is there to grind away at the day to day details that go into running the lab. The ideal candidate is a positive team-player with an extra dab of attention to detail. As a naturally curious human, you will study and comprehend all policies, procedures and operational guidelines set by the management team to help our lab team achieve the high standards we set for ourselves.
Responsibilities
- Operate laboratory instruments, make observations, calculate and record results
- Understand and meet daily goals
- Work as part of a team to meet production schedules
- Follow SOP and standard analytical procedures to meet Good Laboratory Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices compliance
- Records data in lab notebooks, computer databases, and test reports
- Practice good housekeeping habits throughout the facility with focus and personal contributions towards a clean and organized assigned work area at the end of the assigned shift
- Employee may also be responsible for monitoring production line and collecting samples for analysis
- Practice good communication, verbal and written, with co-workers and management
- Familiarity with basic scientific principles and laboratory experience. Must be able to follow written direction and maintain a laboratory notebook.
- Capable of working with hazardous chemicals and is able to identify and report unsafe equipment, conditions and practices so that they may be corrected prior to an incident
- Flexibility and the ability to shift work schedule according to production needs
Qualificaions
- Associate or 4-year degree preferred, with relevant college courses in biology, chemistry, or physics
- Prior Laboratory experience required
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all employees
- Basic math skills
- Familiarity with OSHA guidelines for dealing with hazardous chemicals
- Understanding and adhering to applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations as they pertain to the industry, safety regulations, local municipal codes and organizational rules, regulations, directives and standard operating procedures
Working Conditions
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to perform grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
- Physical demands – May be required to stand and/or walk for extended periods of time. Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 50 pounds (200 pounds with assistance).
