A DAY IN THE LIFE
Enthalpy Analytical, is part of the larger organization, Montrose Environmental Group, is comprised of over 9 laboratories servicing air, water, soil, tobacco,
cannabis, and toxicity testing. Regulations drive the need for our services, but our unique capabilities allow us to add value to clients beyond environmental compliance.
Our San Diego, CA facility is currently seeking a Full-Time Laboratory Supervisor to join our team.
As a key member of the laboratory team, this role will be responsible for a full range of activities including:
- Laboratory Supervisors at Enthalpy equip and maintain a well-trained and informed staff to meet the expectations of our clients by efficiently and profitably generating defensible data on time.
- Laboratory Supervisor will be an analyst who is responsible for most aspects of an operating team within the lab. Their role is one of a facilitator and doer. Personnel supervision, time management, and operational efficiency
- Hiring, firing, and disciplinary actions
- Conflict resolution, personnel skills development and team building
- Training on routine lab procedures
- Analyze samples as needed by using various published methods
- Preparation of data summaries for inclusion in client reports.
- Sample Preparation as needed
- Split shift and/or weekend duties
- Troubleshooting and problem solving
- Write and assist the QA with updating related SOPs
- Maintaining organized records of sample preparation and analysis
- Initiate and address non-conformance issues
- Overhead projects designed to improve efficiency of, or accuracy of analyses
- Comply with Enthalpy’s Quality Assurance Program and other policies
- Other duties as assigned by the Lab Manager or Lab Director
- Ensure staff comply with Enthalpy’s Health and Safety Plan
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully, individuals must be able to perform each duty and responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. - Associates degree or higher in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience required
- Laboratory Supervisors must be well versed in most of the methods run
- They must understand the underlying physical or chemical principles that underpin the assays being performed and be able to effectively communicate and train staff
- They must have shown the ability to organize, communicate, and facilitate priorities to staff in an effective manner
- They must be able to handle non-routine samples and be capable of managing an effective workflow (this includes managing hours worked and logistics for numerous assays)
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Effectiveness. Positive outcomes & results of communication skills
- Conflict resolution skills: Removes/Breakdown organizational communication barriers
- Assertion Skills-Problem diagnosis, assess corrective action, not blame
- Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and maintain composure during stressful times
