Job Description
Summary of Position:
The Assistant Grower is responsible for assisting in production matters involving the crop growth, fertilizer applications and pond logistics. The Assistant Grower works with Priva and applies scientific techniques to assist in improving the condition and productivity of existing plants.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
- Monitor growing conditions and discuss changes in humidity, moisture, temperature, and other cultivation procedures with Grower to ensure conformance with quality control standards.
- Respond to Priva alarms; follows Priva and growing best practices to address a variety of issues.
- Audit the seeding crew to ensure procedures are being properly followed and no seeding errors take place.
- Create a seeding plan and harvest schedule that factors in growing schedules, pond logistics, and crop cycles.
- Manage plant quality during time on pond, controlling the size and quality of the plants in order to meet customer requirements.
- Leverage expertise to make decisions about variety selection, space utilization, and planting schedule.
- Responsible for identifying crop issues and reporting to Head Grower, Growers, and IPM if applicable.
- Under the direction of the Grower or Head Grower, determine appropriate irrigation schedule and fertilizer application.
- Assist the R&D team as needed under the supervision of the Grower or Head Grower.
- Maintain accurate records and ensure all duties are completed properly.
- Maintain current knowledge of growing techniques and technologies.
- Required to work weekends and holidays on a regular basis for emergency and alarm coverage.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Familiar with Priva or similar growing software; able to gain proficiency in essential tasks (within two months).
- Able to utilize irrigation, climate, and other growing systems (within three months) to impact crops.
- Knowledge of plant nutrition and maintenance.
- Ability to communicate professionally in English; Spanish language proficiency is desired.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture Sciences, Biochemical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent number of years of experience.
- Preference will be given to candidates who possess (1) year of horticulture/growing experience.
Supervisory:
- May lead or supervise the work of Irrigation Technicians based on location.
Work Environment:
Greenhouse, 80%
- The temperatures in the greenhouse vary depending on the weather outside
- Climate can range from hot and humid to cold depending on the location and time of year
- PPE must be worn at all times

As a Head Grower, you will be responsible for growing Revol’s crops according to our quality and yield standards. This position manages all horticulture functions involving production management of the greenhouse crops, plant variety selection, IPM, production forecasting, and budgets. The Head Grower is proficient with the climate control system, Priva automation, and can apply scientific techniques to carry out production, optimize growing conditions, and increase productivity of existing plants.
Role and Responsibilities:
- Oversees planning and production of all stages of the crop cultivation;
- Manages climate control system management, including daily and weekly plans/actions;
- Coordinates the growing team and ensures all aspects of cultivation meet the needs of the crop for achieving maximum quality and yield;
- Maintains health of the crop by managing the irrigation and fertilization systems;
- Manages water resources, water systems, and equipment;
- Oversees pest and disease management, carrying out weekly and long-term control strategies which incorporate integrated pest management (IPM);
- DOES NOT experiment with alternative and innovative growing techniques to increase yield;
- Makes decisions about variety selection, space utilization, and the planting schedule;
- Carries out trials of new plant varieties, collects data, and executes analyses to identify the best performing varieties;
- Leads crop inspections to maintain quality standards;
- Leads growing team of 3-5 direct reports;
- Supervises the working environment to ensure compliance with company and statutory hygiene, health, and safety standards, as well as policies and procedures;
- Works with crop labor to maximize labor productivity and efficiencies; prepares regular crop forecasts for packhouse and sales teams;
- Minimizes horticultural waste;
- Required to regularly work weekends and holidays for emergency and alarm coverage;
- Provides job specific training to crop labor performing activities;
- Assists when needed with emergency administration;
- Assists and performs any other related duties as required or assigned
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Plant Sciences, Biochemical Engineering or a related field Four (4) years of agricultural experience in high technology greenhouses
- Advanced knowledge with Priva
- Proficient with Microsoft systems
- Willingness to work all days with appropriate breaks and rest periods on schedule
- Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
Working Conditions:
Work will be performed 80% in the greenhouse with 20% in the office for documentation and any other paperwork requested.
