Two years of verifiable experience in maintenance or mechanical work under the supervision of a skilled trades worker or completion of an appropriate two-year technical school course.
Duties Description
Duties include but are not limited to:
- Apply a working knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, equipment used within the Department as indicated for the position; apply a working knowledge of safety standards and procedures and applicable codes and regulations.
- Perform moderate to heavy manual labor; climb ladders and work at heights on scaffolds and platforms.
- Perform routine replacement and repair of plumbing of potable water systems and steam fitting equipment and installation of new equipment according to layouts provided by the supervisor by cutting, fitting and threading pipe; removing existing pipes and fixtures. Must understand oil fired and propane fired heating systems.
- Cut, weld and braze a variety of metal materials and equipment.
- Perform semi-skilled carpentry activities including repairing doors, windows, stairs, railings, locks and door hardware. Construction of miscellaneous small buildings/roof structures to protect equipment and materials, from wood and metal materials. This also includes concrete form work, concrete flat work, foundation slab/sidewalk work and other miscellaneous concrete repairs.
- Operate and maintain heating and hot water equipment by replacing parts such as filters, pumps and cleaning equipment.
- Perform routine tasks of the electrical trade, including repairing electrical equipment such as overhead door motors, switches, outlets, lights and running new circuits.
- As assigned, operate a motor vehicle and operate trucks and equipment.
- Maintenance Assistant may supervise others.
- Specific duties will be discussed at the time of the interview.
Responsibilities may include serving a role within the Incident Command System to support the department’s response to regional and statewide emergency situations.

Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and assignment. Cannabis use will be tested for during the pre-employment screening process and may be the basis for disqualification for employment or may be a basis for removal from employment.
