This job is located at City Bitty Farm, located in southeast Kansas City just west of the old Bannister Mall. It is easy to get to from Rt-71 and I-435. The Troost bus line has a stop less than a block from the farm that runs from CBF to downtown.
Position: Greenhouse Grower - Growing Food for Chefs
Our ideal candidate would have a passion for local organic food production and a sincere eagerness to learn. The employee will report directly to the ownership. The candidate must have a strong work ethic and mechanical aptitude.
City Bitty Farm is expanding quickly as clients reopen. Opportunities to grow into managing the staff are available.
Essential Job Functions:
Oversee the sowing, maintenance, watering, harvest, washing, packaging, & invoicing of produce. Manage and maintain the grounds, outdoor garden, fruit / nut trees, & transplants grown in the greenhouse.
Keep inventory of seeds, compost, & supplies as well as handle procurement of materials.
Track climate and growing data & expenses, submitting receipts & payments to accounting.
Help with construction & maintenance of the grounds, garden, greenhouse, & washing area.
Assist in marketing & public relations, always promoting a positive brand image for CBF.
Desired Skills:
Applicant must be able to work with a small staff.
Applicant must have strong organizational skills, ability to work independently & meet timelines.
Applicant must be able to articulate themselves well to clients, tour groups, & other employees.
Applicant must be flexible & be able to multi-task. CBF manufacturers food 52 weeks / year. The job requires both production tasks and flexibility for the other needs of the farm.
Applicant must be able to safely operate & be comfortable with power tools & gas equipment.
Applicant must be able to perform physical tasks for prolonged hours outdoors. City Bitty Farm has material handling equipment and the primary responsibilities of the position include working in a greenhouse with benches, trolleys, and dollies to improve the ergonomics of the job. Although CBF does grow in the ground, that activity is very limited at the moment.
Applicant must be trustworthy, have a strong moral character, & be willing for CBF to perform a background check. Applicant must be comfortable around dogs and children.
