Job Description:
These positions are full-time, classified positions which are represented by a union.
The
Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD), Oregon State Public Health Laboratory (OSPHL) in Hillsboro, OR
is seeking two Environmental & Cannabis Laboratory Assessors, one limited duration and one permanent, to assess environmental and cannabis testing laboratories for regulatory compliance.
What will you do?
As an Environmental & Cannabis Laboratory Assessor, you will perform the following duties:

Perform microbiology, chemistry, and quality systems assessments of environmental and Cannabis testing laboratories to determine compliance with the TNI Standard as implemented through ORELAP, federal, state, and local rules and regulations pertaining to environmental laboratories.

Perform document reviews of environmental laboratory testing methods, analyze data records and quality system documentation to determine compliance with the TNI Standard as implemented through ORELAP, federal, state, and local rules and regulations.

Assign the severity of laboratory deficiencies cited and monitor corrective actions that are implemented to settle instances of non-compliance.

Develop program goals, objectives, and action plans with program staff and inter-agency partners.

Participate in the national TNI consensus standards development.

Formulate ORELAP policies and procedures that reflect the TNI Standards.

Laboratories that are assessed may be in or out-of-state and often require overnight travel.

Act as backup to the ORELAP manager to prepare invoices and certificates, add tests/analytes to the ORELAP database, and prepare assessment reports

What are we looking for?
Minimum Requirements
A bachelor’s degree in chemistry or microbiology or a related natural science degree AND three years of experience in an environmental or
cannabis laboratory or a related facility that included compliance testing;
OR
Five years of experience doing administrative research in an environmental or cannabis laboratory or a related field that included compiling and evaluating facts to recommend management action or decide compliance or eligibility with program guidelines and regulations. Three of the five years must be above the technical support level;
Requested Skills
-
Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in microbiology, chemistry, or a related field, AND recent environmental or cannabis laboratory experience.

Experience working in an environmental or cannabis laboratory environment.

Experience evaluating laboratories and quality systems.
-
Knowledge of the TNI Standards.
-
Experience working with drinking water regulations, data reduction, and reporting techniques.
-
Must have the ability to obtain certifications in two drinking water disciplines (inorganic, organic, and/or microbiology).

Must successfully complete the Basic Assessor Training Course, Technical Course for Microbiology, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and refresher courses.

Professional, diplomatic oral and written communication skills required.

Proficient use of Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and MS Teams.
