Summary of Duties:
The Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience (IPN) at Washington State University (WSU) is seeking an established scientist and leader to fill the Bernice Gilman Baily and Joseph Baily Endowed Chair position and to support our burgeoning focus on affective and behavioral neuroscience. Preference will be given to candidates with an internationally recognized research program in the areas of social neuroscience, the human-animal bond, or the neural circuitry of affect, stress reduction or motivation. Applicants using modern neuroscience techniques to interrogate circuits and systems that integrate with existing departmental strengths in broad areas of neuroscience (https://ipn.vetmed.wsu.edu/research) or with college strengths in infectious disease, reproductive biology, cell signaling, and genomics are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time (12 month) permanent tenure-track endowed chair position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, depending on qualifications, located at our Pullman, Washington campus.
The effort distribution is flexible with approximately 65% research, 25% formal teaching in undergraduate and graduate courses, and 10% service being standard. The successful candidate will have a productive, extramurally funded research program and is expected to establish meaningful collaborations with current WSU researchers, actively contribute to the department's teaching missions. Preference will be given to candidates that can actively collaborate in service or research with the Center for the Study of Animal Well-Being (https://www.vetmed.wsu.edu/departments/csaw).
Required Qualifications:
- An earned doctoral degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Neuroscience, Biomedical Sciences, or a related field by the time of hire is required.
- Must have an established active extramurally funded research program with a record of peer-reviewed publications and national/international reputation commensurate with rank.
- IPN seeks candidates whose research, teaching, or service has prepared them to contribute to our commitment to diversity and inclusion in higher education.
- Additionally, for the Full Professor level, candidates must have a demonstrated record of leadership in research, teaching or service to their university or field.
- All candidates must have a history of contributing to high quality undergraduate, graduate or professional education and excellent communication skills.

Summary of Duties:
The Sr. Scientific Assistant will perform field and laboratory research including the design of research approaches and identifying and defining research problems related to hempproduction, sample generation and analysis. The Sr. Scientific Assistant will oversee specialized field prep, plot design and planting for WSU's hemp program efforts/involvement in the national hemp variety trials as well as other grant-funded hemp research. This individual will collect highly complex data for technical analysis and interpret research data from hemp field trials and associated lab-based sample analyses, and oversee the efforts of others (part time employees, students, volunteers, etc.) participating on those activities. The Sr. Scientific Assistant will ensure quality control in hemp plant growth efforts, sample collection, sample processing and data generation and make improvement to techniques and interpretation, in consultation with Dr. Gang. This individual will assist in preparing journal publications and progress reports for grant-funded projects and for the variety trials etc., specifically by generating tables and figures presenting data and generating summaries/descriptions of the results and what those results may mean. This individual will manage and maintain daily field and laboratory operations associated with the hemp program's field-based research efforts, and will conduct general field maintenance and routine care of field equipment and hemp program-associated scientific instrumentation; design and install specialized irrigation systems for different hemp field studies, order supplies, keep inventory records and maintain a safe working environment.
Required Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in an appropriate related scientific or engineering discipline and four (4) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. A PhD in a scientific or engineering field may be substituted for up to two (2) years of the required work experience.
- Must have, or able to obtain, a valid driver's license by time of hire. This position will be centered out of WSU's Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center (IAREC) in Prosser, WA, but will require occasional travel to other field sites in Othello, WA and to farmer/grower partner fields throughout the state at times.
- A state background check to qualify as a hemp researcher will be required upon hire, and as such the position is limited to individuals over the age of 21, due to regulatory requirements under current state statute for overseeing hemp growth.
- Experience with regulatory compliance for hemp/cannabis is required, such as record keeping, working with state agency regulators, understanding and implementing regulations for plant growth and harvest and processing.
- At least two years' combined experience in supervising other workers, especially in field/farm research/work, is required, such as overseeing work of a farm crew, greenhouse facility staff, field research staff, etc.
- A total of 5 years experience in crop field research along with a minimum of 1 year of hemp research experience is required including experience in the following areas: evaluating soil moisture levels and adapting irrigation applications in response, evaluating pest pressure (measuring insect levels) and applying appropriate control measures (beneficials, chemicals, organics), working under regulatory compliance for pesticide/chemical applications, and collecting and recording scientific data.
- Familiarity with hemp/cannabis growth conditions, irrigation needs, nutrient needs, pest pressures, plant quality control measurements is required. Experience with hemp/cannabis transplanting, growth, and harvest procedures and practices is required.
- Experience working with farming equipment (especially driving a tractor with planting/cultivation implements attached and other farm equipment useful (e.g., harvester) for hemp cultivation and harvest) in setting up and running field research is required.
- Experience with pesticide/herbicide/other farm chemical application is required due to the studies to be carried out investigating the variable rate application of such agents in research designs.
- Experience evaluating hemp/cannabis plant performance and product quality (seed and/or flower and/or stem/fiber quality) is required.
- Due to the highly collaborative nature of the hemp research/variety trial work, including extensive interaction with industry partners, and with staff and researchers at partner institutions, as well as with summer student interns, an ability to work with others in a collegial environment is required.
- Due to the distance from Pullman of the various field locations for hemp program research efforts, the ability to work unsupervised is required. Self-starter, go-getter mentality is a must for this position.

The Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience (IPN) at Washington State University (WSU) is seeking an established scientist and leader to fill the Bernice Gilman Baily and Joseph Baily Endowed Chair position and to support our burgeoning focus on affective and behavioral neuroscience. Preference will be given to candidates with an internationally recognized research program in the areas of social neuroscience, the human-animal bond, or the neural circuitry of affect, stress reduction or motivation. Summary of Duties:
The Research Study Coordinator will coordinate and oversee the implementation of research studies and projects through community outreach, developing recruitment strategies by engaging participants, site staff, and community members in the Promoting Research Initiatives in Substance Use and Mental Health (PRISM) Collaborative.
This position will work predominately on a large study in partnership with Northwest Indian College, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and a Tribally-owned and operated clinic to investigate the relationship between cannabis and pain in receiving cannabis as medicine. Responsibilities in the role include, but are not limited to, participant recruitment, IRB, Tribal approval, and human subjects regulation coordination, study coordination, database entry (REDCap), and data management.
Opportunities for involvement in other studies related to Native health are also possible. Due to the nature of the research studies, experience working with Native communities and interest in cannabis research is highly desirable.
Essential Duties:
50% - Study Coordination
- Assists with the development and implementation of study protocol. Works closely with the Principal Investigators (PIs), other Native researchers and clinicians in partnering Native communities to strategize coordination of the study. Builds relationships with communities and local resources to improve recruitment opportunities.
- Collaborates with Principal Investigators (PIs) and study staff to monitor research studies to ensure that established procedures are being followed. Interpret policy and procedure to ensure compliance with all laws and rules. Address protocol deviation concerns immediately with supervisor. Strategizes and helps troubleshoot to correct problems. Escalates issues as needed to supervisor.
- Prepares human subjects applications, consent forms, and amendments for institutional review board (IRB) review and approval, coordinates Tribal approvals. Assists with training to ensure that staff and PIs are aware of policy and procedure concerning human subjects.
- Provides continuous review of research studies to ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, policy, and procedures that are associated with human subjects. Reports non-compliance issues immediately to supervisor. Also is responsible for managing reports to funders, data monitoring safety board, and community advisory boards.
- Ensures that study materials and supplies are available to PIs. Assists with inventory and ordering as needed.
- Serves as the primary contact for one or more study sites.
20% - Participant Screening and Recruitment
- Primary contact for all study participants and those that are interested in becoming a study participant.
- Collaborates with community agencies and other potential recruitment resources. Maintains contact lists for community agencies and the services they provide. Refers study participants to these agencies as needed.
- Works with PRISM Administrative Associate to advertise study through the appropriate channels (i.e., PRISM social media [Facebook/Twitter], local advertising agencies, etc.)
- Reviews and screens interested participants. Ensures that all participants meet the needs of the study and are eligible for the study based on established protocols.
- Recruits individuals to participate in research studies. Provides information about the study and what types of information/data will be collected from each individual. Informs all participants of data collection and storage/security measures that are in place to protect their privacy. Reviews and explains informed consent forms.
- Collects data, conducts interviews, and administers psychological measures related to mental health and substance use. Collects urine and breath samples and performs analyses in applicable studies.
- Travel, as needed, to study sites to assist with enrollment, resolve problems, and undertake support data dissemination efforts.
15% - Data Management and Reporting
- Gathers and inputs study data into database systems. Ensures accuracy in the recording of all data and works with applicable research sites to assure data integrity.
- Manages research databases, troubleshooting, and requesting changes to the database when necessary. Pulls and analyzes data for reports.
- Reviews and assesses study data to ensure adherence to study protocol. Collaborates with supervisor if protocols are not being met.
- Develops data dictionaries and code books.
- Coordinates data transfer, ensuring prompt transfer and data safety. Processes, tracks, and monitors incoming data.
- Ensures all data is secure and remains confidential, reports breaches immediately.
- Assists in writing posters and presentations for disseminating evaluation findings.
- Assists in preparing progress reports for funders.

Summary of Duties:
The Postdoctoral Fellow will utilize diverse methods and procedures to work with rats in two independent projects in the McLaughlin Lab. The first project investigates how endocannabinoid signaling in the lateral habenula impacts behavioral flexibility under conditions of chronic stress. The second project explores behavioral and biological predictors of cannabis-seeking behavior, as well as developmental effects of cannabis exposure using a novel translational model of cannabis vapor self-administration in rodents. Candidates with experience in in vivo and ex vivo electrophysiology, in vivo calcium imaging (fiber photometry), MatLab coding, and rodent behavior will be given priority.

International neuroscience faculty within the department form highly collaborative research units that study substance abuse, ingestive behavior, stress, and sleep neurobiology. Summary of Duties:
The Research Study Coordinator will coordinate and oversee the implementation of research studies and projects through community outreach, developing recruitment strategies by engaging participants, site staff, and community members in the Promoting Research Initiatives in Substance Use and Mental Health (PRISM) Collaborative.
This position will work predominately on a large study in partnership with Northwest Indian College, the University of Alaska Fairbanks, and a Tribally-owned and operated clinic to investigate the relationship between cannabis and pain in receiving cannabis as medicine. Responsibilities in the role include, but are not limited to, participant recruitment, IRB, Tribal approval, and human subjects regulation coordination, study coordination, database entry (REDCap), and data management.
Opportunities for involvement in other studies related to Native health are also possible. Due to the nature of the research studies, experience working with Native communities and interest in cannabis research is highly desirable.
Essential Duties:
50% - Study Coordination
- Assists with the development and implementation of study protocol. Works closely with the Principal Investigators (PIs), other Native researchers and clinicians in partnering Native communities to strategize coordination of the study. Builds relationships with communities and local resources to improve recruitment opportunities.
- Collaborates with Principal Investigators (PIs) and study staff to monitor research studies to ensure that established procedures are being followed. Interpret policy and procedure to ensure compliance with all laws and rules. Address protocol deviation concerns immediately with supervisor. Strategizes and helps troubleshoot to correct problems. Escalates issues as needed to supervisor.
- Prepares human subjects applications, consent forms, and amendments for institutional review board (IRB) review and approval, coordinates Tribal approvals. Assists with training to ensure that staff and PIs are aware of policy and procedure concerning human subjects.
- Provides continuous review of research studies to ensure compliance with all laws, regulations, policy, and procedures that are associated with human subjects. Reports non-compliance issues immediately to supervisor. Also is responsible for managing reports to funders, data monitoring safety board, and community advisory boards.
- Ensures that study materials and supplies are available to PIs. Assists with inventory and ordering as needed.
- Serves as the primary contact for one or more study sites.
20% - Participant Screening and Recruitment
- Primary contact for all study participants and those that are interested in becoming a study participant.
- Collaborates with community agencies and other potential recruitment resources. Maintains contact lists for community agencies and the services they provide. Refers study participants to these agencies as needed.
- Works with PRISM Administrative Associate to advertise study through the appropriate channels (i.e., PRISM social media [Facebook/Twitter], local advertising agencies, etc.)
- Reviews and screens interested participants. Ensures that all participants meet the needs of the study and are eligible for the study based on established protocols.
- Recruits individuals to participate in research studies. Provides information about the study and what types of information/data will be collected from each individual. Informs all participants of data collection and storage/security measures that are in place to protect their privacy. Reviews and explains informed consent forms.
- Collects data, conducts interviews, and administers psychological measures related to mental health and substance use. Collects urine and breath samples and performs analyses in applicable studies.
- Travel, as needed, to study sites to assist with enrollment, resolve problems, and undertake support data dissemination efforts.
15% - Data Management and Reporting
- Gathers and inputs study data into database systems. Ensures accuracy in the recording of all data and works with applicable research sites to assure data integrity.
- Manages research databases, troubleshooting, and requesting changes to the database when necessary. Pulls and analyzes data for reports.
- Reviews and assesses study data to ensure adherence to study protocol. Collaborates with supervisor if protocols are not being met.
- Develops data dictionaries and code books.
- Coordinates data transfer, ensuring prompt transfer and data safety. Processes, tracks, and monitors incoming data.

Ensures all data is secure and remains confidential, reports breaches immediately.
- Assists in writing posters and presentations for disseminating evaluation findings.
- Assists in preparing progress reports for funders.
10% - Administrative and Grant Support

Monitors supply inventory for study periodically. Ensures study supplies are available and works with PRISM Administrative Associate to replenish supplies as needed.
- Assists in setting up service contracts with vendors as needed.
- Coordinates payments to participants and billing procedures related to study visits.
- Assists in the coordination of grant-related travel, purchases, and reimbursement requests. Assists with purchasing, including purchase requests, ordering, and reimbursements.
- Schedules meetings with research partners.
- Assists with other fiscal and administrative duties related to grants.
5% - Other

Required Qualifications:
Two years of college level course work in a relevant academic area AND two years of experience as a Research Study Assistant OR equivalent education/experience.
Additional Requirements:
- Experience recruiting study participants for research studies.
- Ability to travel, including overnight, on occasion.
- Must have valid driver license by the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:

Summary of Duties:
The Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience (IPN) at Washington State University (WSU) is seeking an established scientist and leader to fill the Bernice Gilman Baily and Joseph Baily Endowed Chair position and to support our burgeoning focus on affective and behavioral neuroscience. Preference will be given to candidates with an internationally recognized research program in the areas of social neuroscience, the human-animal bond, or the neural circuitry of affect, stress reduction or motivation. Applicants using modern neuroscience techniques to interrogate circuits and systems that integrate with existing departmental strengths in broad areas of neuroscience (https://ipn.vetmed.wsu.edu/research) or with college strengths in infectious disease, reproductive biology, cell signaling, and genomics are encouraged to apply. This is a full-time (12 month) permanent tenure-track endowed chair position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, depending on qualifications, located at our Pullman, Washington campus.
The effort distribution is flexible with approximately 65% research, 25% formal teaching in undergraduate and graduate courses, and 10% service being standard. The successful candidate will have a productive, extramurally funded research program and is expected to establish meaningful collaborations with current WSU researchers, actively contribute to the department's teaching missions. Required Qualifications:

Summary of Duties:
The Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience (IPN) at Washington State University (WSU) is seeking to fill two permanent tenure-track faculty positions at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, depending on qualifications. Positions will be located at our flagship campus in Pullman, Washington. Preference will be given to applicants whose research programs will synergize with existing strengths in departmental research including the areas of substance use disorders, energy homeostasis, and sensory neuroscience (see https://ipn.vetmed.wsu.edu/research for details). Special consideration will be given to candidates with research expertise in the broadly-defined areas of Affective and Motivational neuroscience using experimental approaches from the molecular to behavioral levels. Summary of Duties:
This position will work to support various research projects related to Native Health, cannabis, and improving drug and alcohol treatment in American Indian and Alaska Native communities. This includes an NIH funded study investigating the impact of cannabis use on pain and pain-related outcomes in a Native owned and operated cannabis clinic, as well as other projects focused on improving substance use treatment in Native communities. This individual will work closely with Native community partners, as well as university researchers.

Specific responsibilities in the role include, but are not limited to, identifying and defining research problems, designing study approaches and methodology with oversight from the PI, designing specific phases of the project with oversight from the PI, participant recruitment, IRB and Tribal approval, data collection management, data security, data analysis, and protocol adherence. This position will have the opportunity to present research results in publishable form.
This position will work closely with Tribal partners, community members, providers, other WSU team members, and faculty at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and Northwest Indian College. Experience working with Native Communities is highly desirable. Interest in cannabis research is also desirable. Knowledge of human subjects regulations, policy, and procedures will also be utilized.

Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in social or behavioral science, business or economics discipline and three (3) years of progressively responsible related professional research experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
Additional Requirements:
- Experience recruiting subjects for research studies.

Experience with data collection and monitoring.
- Experience preparing reports, graphs, tables, charts, illustrations, etc. that display data and study results.

Ability to travel, including overnight, on occasion.
- Must have valid driver license by the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in relevant field.
- Experience working with Native communities and organizations.

Evidence of strong interpersonal skills and competence communicating and working with health professionals, faculty members, researchers, and diverse groups within the general public.
- Evidence of cultural competency (i.e., possessing the ability to understand, value, and respect the attitudes, values, and beliefs that differ across cultures and to responds appropriately and respectfully to these differences).
- Background in cannabis or substance use research.
- Experience utilizing RedCAP for data collection and management.

Experience designing research studies and independently implementing research protocols.
