Full Job Description
We are seeking a Full-time Dispensary RN to join our dedicated team.
For nearly 50 years, Valley Community Healthcare has been one of Los Angeles’ leading community-based health centers, providing primary care and promoting community wellness and prevention programs. Located in the San Fernando Valley, Valley Community Healthcare has two sites and 30+ providers. We are an NCQA certified-level 3 Patient Centered Medical Home for over 25,000 unique patients and provided over 100,000 medical visits last year. We are looking to grow and integrate our core programs - primary care, pediatrics, adolescent teen clinic, women’s health, dental, optometry, and behavioral health, through a care team approach, quality, and innovative care delivery models.
Summary:
The Dispensary RN, in collaboration with the Director of Nursing, will be responsible for dispensing mediations at the North Hills Wellness Center dispensary. This position will provide high quality patient care services related to medication dispensation and ensure compliance with all applicable internal and regulatory standards.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for overseeing and maintaining Clinic dispensary.
2. Keeps dispensary in compliance with regulatory standards.
3. Checks expiration dates on all medications, dispenses correct medication, dose, amount of medication for the appropriate patient, at the appropriate time.
4. Inventories medications on a weekly basis, orders medications as needed.
5. Works with CMO and DON to assure that agency is in compliance with all licensing regulations.
6. Assists with competency of staff through training for services including, but not limited to:
a. Venipuncture, Immunizations, Injections, Aseptic techniques, Cal OSHA, Infection control, Fire/Safety/Disaster/Terrorism and appropriate chart documentation.
7. Maintains acceptable standards of nursing and clinical support care based upon community and VCH standards.
8. Provides direct Registered Nurse clinical services as needed such as patient education related to medications, health education to patients with acute and chronic illnesses, and triage to patients as needed.
9. Identifies areas for process improvements and advises as necessary to DON and CMO.
10. Ensures the implementation of effective systems for Triaging patient calls, Walk-in patients, and Code responses.
11. Acts as patient advocate and coordinates as appropriate with others to facilitate the best possible medical outcomes.
12. Supports regulatory audit activities in conjuction with Community Clinic association of Los Angeles (CCALAC) pharmacist of record.
13. Performs other duties, tasks and procedures as assigned.
Other Responsibilities
1. Clinical Compliance
a. Ensures compliance with current NHWC dispensary Policies and Procedures (P&P) and follows all state and federal regulatory and contract requirements.
b. Participates in regular meetings with staff to ensure full understanding and buy-in for P&P updates.
c. Meets with CCALAC Pharmacist of record to ensure Dispensary compliance.
Competencies

· Previous dispensary experience preferred.
· Bi-lingual English/Spanish required.

· CAIR2 knowledge and experience.
· PHN (Public Health Nurse) certification preferred.

· Ethics – exhibits sound decision making and a high standard of professionalism.

Education and/or Experience
· Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
· Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization
· Electronic Health Records proficient
· Current Registered Nurse licensure- must be maintained after hire
· Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing is preferred
Physical Demands:
· Ability to perform assessments and treatment plans for patients.
· Perform duties requiring a full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients.
Environment:
Risk of exposure to infectious disease.
