The research scientist (RS) will work closely the principal investigators to advance the scientific and intellectual aims of the study. The RS will pursue a related independent line of research through the use of existing data as well as by seeking funding for supplemental and spin off research proposals. The RS will assist the PIs in the development and implementation of the research design, and will oversee the conducting of the scientific experiment, and provide high-level oversight of a large multi-site NIH funded randomized clinical trial treating 1000 young adults who have a cannabis use disorder. The RS will provide oversight of virtual enrollment, implementation of web-based and phone-based data collection, text-messaging protocols, and communication procedures. The RS will support the scientific culture and structure among CBHR staff through research meetings and engaging with outside experts related to the work of CBHR. The RS will conduct advanced statistical data analyses, data management, and interpret and document results for NIH reports, scientific publications, and conference presentations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide high-level scientific oversight and technical training to all research staff from both research sites on recruitment procedures of participants including following established systematic recruitment protocols and required documentation.
- Supervise the project coordinators at both research sites in the execution, organization, and management of clinical trial research procedures. Document each procedure as defined in the study protocol.
- Train all staff from both research sites on clinical trial procedures, technological applications of web-based screening and data collection, consenting procedures, enrollment, text-delivered treatments, and data quality management.
- Oversee all regulatory requirements, such as IRB for two research sites, NIH clinical trial regulations, Data Safety and Monitoring Board, and university requirements,
- Provide coordination of all staff tasks and conduct performance reviews. Assist the Research Associate in monitoring follow-up surveys and necessary communication.
- Conduct advanced statistical analyses, interpret, and report results for NIH, IRB, academic publications, and conference presentations.
- Pursue an independent, funded, line of research utilizing existing data from the PI’s lab and other sources.
- Seek funding in the form of NIH administrative supplement grants, and NIH R awards such as R03 and R21, as well as through other federal funding opportunities as well as foundation funding.
- The expectation and opportunity for this position is to develop a line of funded research that fits with and strengthens the Center for Behavioral Health Research portfolio.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: Applicant must hold a Doctoral degree in psychology, public health, social work, human development, or other related fields.
EXPERIENCE: The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge and skills of designing, conducting, and analyzing clinic randomized trials targeting substance use, including experience with collecting biological assessments. Must have detailed knowledge of NIH funded clinical trial procedures. Must have the ability to perform multiple complex tasks, such as the development of training materials and research protocols. The ability to conduct advanced statistical analyses and to communicate clearly. Detailed knowledge of mHealth interventions. Exceptional personnel skills necessary to hire, train, and supervise high-level research staff for complex clinical research.
WORK SCHEDULE: .This position may occasionally have weekend work hours and overnight travel.
