The position of Cultivation Team Member at Southall Farms will be both rewarding and challenging. This is mostly outside work where you will do the rewarding work of cultivation all aspects of the Southall gardens and farm areas. The cultivation team engages in an array of agriculture tasks from seeding, weeding, planting, maintaining, and harvesting vegetables in our 3+/-acre vegetable farm and in our Kitchen Gardens. Team members will seed and assist in the greenhouse, shape and amend beds in the garden and high tunnels, mow, water and otherwise facilitate the growth of plants by weeding, trellising and harvesting. In a rotation, members of the cultivation team may also be asked to complete livestock chores which currently consists of a small aquaponic operation, an 135-bird egg laying flock.
Requirements:
The job will also require lifting of objects 50 lbs. multiple times per day.
Scheduled weekday and weekend work is required as the plants and animals grow 24/7.
Parts of job require a serious degree of physical effort.
Some of your daily work will be front facing and you will be responsible for interacting with guests to the farm in both causal interactions and scheduled programs.
Members of the Cultivation Team will be asked to be outside rain or shine completing tasks and must be able to work low to the ground for multiple hours a day.
You must demonstrate the ability to stay focused and efficient without supervision.
Good communication, teamwork, and a solution-based attitude is imperative.
Skills and Experience:
Valid driver’s license
1+ Season of farming preferred
Small scale and sustainable farm knowledge a plus
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
