Systems Design Specialist Technician Position
SJ Solutions is a cannabis consulting and technology company that provides technical expertise and facility design/installation services to its customers. Located in Northridge, CA, our culture is fast-paced, customer-centric, and innovative; executed in a fun, team-based environment. We are a non-plant touching firm looking to bring aboard an experienced Systems Design Specialist
Technician to assist with the installation of innovative grow infrastructures; leading troubleshooting efforts and partnering with the design team to create world-class cultivation environments.
The Systems Design Specialist Technician plays a key role in the success of our business. The successful individual will be able to perform assigned operations and tasks safely and efficiently in a production environment. This position will interact with employees, managers, and regulatory representatives. In every case, the Systems Design Specialist Technician must present themselves with the professionalism and discretion appropriate for each interactive situation.
Job Description
This position requires an intimate understanding of irrigation, lighting, and a/c systems; as well as OSHA and other regulatory requirements to allow for state compliance designation. Requires working closely with operators in a cross-functional and fast-paced environment.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
General
- Ability to read blueprints/building plans and take precise measurements.
- Thorough understanding of 2d/3d render software (CAD).
- Strong grounding in OSHA and other compliance and safety guidelines.
- Understanding of computer systems and networks.
- Working knowledge of cannabis environment theory.
- Light construction/labor experience.
- Awareness of growing technologies available on the market.
- Ability to pivot and quickly revise plans due to changing conditions.
- conducting tests and inspections.
- identifying production, process, or product issues, and presenting solutions.
- Identifying and resolving workflow and production issues.
- Ensuring that standards and safety regulations are observed.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment by following departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs), adhering to SJP SOPs, and complying with legal regulations.
- Maintains and ensures that proper PPE is utilized and changed out regularly, or as needed.
- Provide Feedback as needed.
- Addressing and discussing issues and proposed solutions with superiors.
- Making recommendations for improvement.
- Creating training materials and operating manuals.
- Safety and compliance with all relevant regulations.
- Report for and successfully complete all training as required.
- Immediately address housekeeping issues and other maintenance needs.
- Other tasks and responsibilities as assigned by management.
Irrigation Systems
- Thorough understanding of irrigation theory.
- Working knowledge of irrigation infrastructure.
- Experience with fertigation systems and optimizing for various set-ups.
- Ability to adapt designs to various grow environments and mediums.
Lighting Systems
- Extensive experience with various lighting configurations/layouts.
- Knowledge of low voltage and high voltage electricity.
A/C Systems
- Thorough knowledge of A/C systems.
- Understanding of room calculations.
- Knowledge of architectural and engineering drawings and designs, building management systems, HVAC, building codes, fire/life safety detection and suppression systems, environmental management best practices and procedures applicable to facility management, renovations, and construction projects.

Required Qualifications:
- 5+ years of progressive experience.
- Minimum 1 year of Plant experience preferred.
- Must be 21 years old per state regulations and pass a criminal background check.
- Must be willing to work in Northridge, California, and be able to travel at a moment’s notice without any travel restrictions.
- Bachelors (Preferred.)
- Electrical certification is a plus.
- Agriculture/horticulture or cannabis experience is a plus.
- Must be willing to work in Northridge, California, and travel as required.
- Must have unrestricted work authorization to work in the United States.
- Able to speak and understand English.
- Able to speak and communicate proficiently.
- Ability to read, write, and perform basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction).
- Proficiency in MS Office Application (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook,) specifically with Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous manufacturing or agriculture experience.
- Prior cannabis experience, including the day-to-day needs of cultivation operators.
PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull and balance up to 50 pounds (100 pounds with assistance) and must be able to do so with extreme care and caution when working with plants and products.
- Excellent vision and hearing are required.
- This position requires prolonged standing (up to 8 hours) and some bending, stooping, sitting, and stretching for extended periods of time while maintaining focus - some movement may be repetitive.
- Work is performed in fast-paced cannabis grow location and is subject to weather conditions, including rain and hot or cold temperatures.
Work Schedule
- Full-time position, Hourly (Exempt).
- Hours: 9am – 5:30pm (8-hour shifts).
- Weekend and holiday availability required.
- Must have open availability.
- Must have reliable transportation.
