Full Job Description
Overview:
- The Cannabis Chemist will work closely with the Director of Operations to establish and implement protocols for Cannabis CO2 extraction, winterization, distillation, formulation of finished goods. Additionally, he will establish and run quality control protocols on HPLC and will develop and improve processes including but not limited to analytical test method validation, verification, re-formulation, investigations, and other non-specified projects or initiatives. The candidate must be able to work as part of a team in a high-volume and rapidly evolving workplace. Candidates should have a minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience. Previous working experience in the Cannabis industry is a plus but we will accept candidates with lab experience using similar technologies.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Schedule workflow for extraction and analysis by due date, hold time and turnaround time requirements.
- Perform all initial and continuing calibration requirements for extraction and sample analysis
- Schedule and perform CO2 extraction of Cannabis biomass, winterization, and distillation using wipe film distillation technique.
- Learn and become proficient performing our in-house methods for potency of cannabinoids using HPLC and other techniques as required.
- Review data and final reports for completeness and accuracy.
- Maintain and troubleshoot extraction and analytical instrumentation and other laboratory equipment.
- Order supplies as needed.
- Perform quality work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Participate in maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the laboratory.
- Perform different analytical tests for R&D and QC as needed.
- Execute projects for established products and new product development with respect to formulation, laboratory investigations, and early process development.
- Evaluate new raw materials and components for quality and safety prior to implementation into exhibit batches and GMP production.
- Work in a cGMP environment and be responsible for recording and reporting all GMP data.
- Oversee and ensure reports, submission documentation, and development summaries documenting the product development process are available for clients, partners, and health authorities.
- Assist with other tasks as needed within the company.
Job Requirements:
The qualified individual should have experience working with extraction, processing and analytic equipment in a lab facility environment. A background in the Cannabis industry is considered a plus.

Experience and/or Education Requirement:
- Bachelor’s Degree in chemistry, Biochemistry or relevant sciences.
- Master’s Degree in organic or analytical chemistry will be preferred.
- Experience with extraction of CO2 equipment and with analytical equipment such as Liquid Chromatography (HPLC).
- Minimum 2 years in a lab environment.
- Proficient in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite.
Language Requirements:
Ability to read and interpret business-related documents such as engineering software, professional journals, manufacturing processes documents, technical processes and government publications. The employee should have the ability to write reports, business correspondence, process and/or procedures manuals and the ability to present information to a group and answer management, or client questions effectively.
Mathematical Requirements:
Should have the basic understanding and how to calculate the following: percentages, averages, standard deviation, proportions, and key performance indicators.
Reasoning Requirements:
Should have the capability of resolving problems with a diverse concrete variable in situations where only strict standardization exists. Should also be able to interpret and to give a clear wide variety of instructions in written, oral, agenda, or graphic format.
Physical Demands:
While executing the duties and responsibilities of this job description, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, or listen. It is frequently required to walk, use hands, fingers, kneel, squat, and bend at the waist. The employee will frequently be required to lift or move objects of up to 20 pounds, and occasionally be required to lift or move objects of up to 40 pounds. The ability to use near, far, peripheral, vision as well as peripheral, depth perception is required.
Work Environment:
While executing the duties and responsibilities of this job description, the employee will occasionally be exposed to a hot and cold work environment. The employee will work in a lab environment, around various chemicals and compounds. All safety precautions will need to be exercised when needed. The work environment sound level is usually low to medium.
