GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Intake Laboratory Technician will be part of a small, collaborative group, but must also be comfortable working independently in a high throughput testing environment. The Technician is responsible for sample intake and accessioning of samples.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Duties of this job include, but are not limited to:
- Perform laboratory opening procedures, such as balance verifications, water activity checks, moisture content analyzer checks etc.
- Sample accessioning and data entry into LIMS.
- Taking photos of cannabis or cannabis products.
- Sample homogenization and partitioning (flower, edibles, concentrates and extracts).
- Cleaning and maintenance of extraction equipment, e.g., glassware, utensils etc.
- Maintaining strict inventory records of all plant materials, chemicals and equipment used in the laboratory.
- Ordering and maintaining inventory records of supplies, materials, equipment, and preparing requisitions as needed.
- Storing supplies and equipment, disposal of waste according to guidelines, and keeping laboratory, storerooms and working areas immaculate.
- Performing clerical work related to laboratory activities such as word processing, record keeping and filing.
- Maintaining material safety data sheets for all department chemicals and products.
- Adherence to quality control documentation.
- Compliance with local and state guidelines requiring chain of custody of controlled substances.
- Sample disposal along with lab waste.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience with Extraction Purification and Analysis preferred, but not required.
- Experience with ISO/IEC 17025:2017.
- Detail oriented, effective time-management skills and ability to multi-task.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced and challenging environment.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Biological, Chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university; or have completed two years of college or university education that included coursework in biological, chemical, agricultural, environmental, or related sciences from an accredited college or university and at least one year full-time practical experience.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, bending, lifting, and use of hands.
- Observe, see, hear, and respond to directions given with effective outcome.
- Ability to lift 30 lbs. from the floor to a waist-high table when necessary.
- Handle the responsibilities and routine stress often associated with this position.

- Processing flower, edibles, concentrates and extracts.
- Cleaning and maintenance of extraction equipment and laboratory facility.
- Maintaining strict inventory records of all plant materials, chemicals and equipment used in the laboratory.
- Operation, maintenance and repairs to laboratory equipment such as liquid chromatography systems, pumps, balances, centrifuges, and other laboratory equipment.
- Maintaining inventory records of supplies, materials, and equipment, and preparing requisitions as needed.
- Storing supplies and equipment, disposal of waste according to guidelines, and keeping laboratory, storerooms and working areas immaculate.
- Washing and sterilizing laboratory glassware.
- Performing clerical work related to laboratory activities such as word processing, record keeping and filing.
- Maintaining material safety data sheets for all department chemicals and products.
- Adherence to quality control documentation.
- Compliance with local and state guidelines requiring chain of custody of controlled substances.
- Other duties as assigned.

Job Description for analytical chemist
Job summary: This position will involve cannabis sample and calibrators preparation as well as operation and maintenance of LC-MS/MS and GC-MS instrumentation including evaluation of QC compliance and data processing. Creating, refining and improving SOPs and methodologies.
Maintaining high level of GLP and GMP within the laboratory. This is not an exhaustive list. Previous experience with sample prep and Shimadzu instrument operating would help.
The successful candidate will be self-motivated, hard-working, with excellent troubleshooting capabilities, with the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven, environmental laboratory environment.
Minimum position requirements:
- A master’s degree (or bachelor’s degree w/additional 2 years’ experience) in chemical, physical, environmental, or biological sciences from an accredited university.
- A minimum of two years’ experience working directly with HPLC and GC-MS instrumentation.
- Experience with Shimadzu instruments and software would be an advantage
- Ability to pass an instrument maintenance/operation and samples/calibrators preparation competency test within 6 weeks of employment.
Skills:
- Troubleshooting HPLC and GC-MS operations
- Perform instrument maintenance: including hardware such as MS source cleaning, flow path and column flushing/cleaning.
- Following and updating lab SOP’s
- Strong technical skills and ability to critically evaluate raw data and results for BCC compliance
- Previous sample and calibrators preparation highly preferred
- Knowledge of instrument software
- Experience with ISO 17025, GMP & GLP guidelines or similar programs.
