Job Summary:
The Independent Grower Program Lead is responsible for supporting independent growers ensuring maximum yield and high quality fruit that is delivered in a timely, cost effective and profitable manner. The position acts as the primary liaison between the production management, Driscolls, and the independent growers in the district. The position leads in all aspects of the production to include supporting the management the grower relationships, cultivating new grower relationships, developing and implementing grower communication programs, evaluating grower ranches and production, communicating best agricultural practices, and coordinating and supporting the harvest and delivery of fruit
Job Contributions and Key Responsabilities:
Production Management (APTOS BERRIES FARMS)
· Working under close direction of the partnership and Independent Grower Manager
o Support in the development and leadership of independent grower long-term planting plans in alignment with Company strategic objectives for the district(s) to include but not limited to, developing long-term substrate plans (acres, ranches, water) where applicable.
o Assist in the development of and manage to approved operation/financial budgets and capital expenditures by providing periodic financial and production results to management
o Assure maximum financial results through improved efficiencies and managing variances.
o Collaborate with Driscoll’s on crop planning, forecasting, and any other area that assures a mutually beneficial interface between the two organizations.
o Lead all aspects of crop production, from land development/soil preparation, through crop maintenance and production
o Manage non-harvest costs.
o Collaborate with and leverage local and corporate administrative services in support of achieving operational and business objectives.
o Collaborate with appropriate production team to determine best irrigation, fertility, and pest control inputs to produce maximum yields and quality.
o Create and foster a culture of safety, performance and quality
o Learn and understand partnership management.
· Independent Grower Management
o Lead in grower performance, production and contracts oversight, as applicable, and provide grower support, as needed.
o Collaborate with Driscoll’s on crop planning, forecasting, and any other area that assures a mutually beneficial interface between the two organizations
o Advise growers on farming practices and standards
o Assure and support an adequate supply of skilled ans quality oriented labor, as needed.
o Collect and report on production data.
o Provide periodic financial and production results.
o Identify anomalies, mitigate risk, and manage outstanding action items.
o Identify independent grower opportunities.
Procurement
· Transact and/or facilitate purchase of farm materials, as needed and support the independent growers in purchasing required materials.
· Monitor and ensure capital purchases are in accordance with approved budgets and guidelines
· Assure maximum financials results through improved efficiencies and managing variances.
Workforce Management
· Support in the management of a cost-effective ranch management and overhead team that is motivated, empowered, and highly skilled in areas of responsibility.
· Provide leadership to the independent grower management team by providing an environment that maximizes employee performance, job satisfaction, and career advancement.
· Delegate and monitor work, as required.
· Recommend staffing and performance related actions.
· Ensure workforce is trained and follow all regulatory and Company safety practices.

Years of Experience:
· Minimum 2 years’ experience in agriculture, preferably in berry production
Licenses:
· Valid driver’s license suitable for insurability through company insurance plan

· · Ability to travel 5 to 10 percent of the time – domestic
· 70% of the time will be spent on the farm, with the production and harvest teams, and with crops; 25% on administrative, business, and planning functions; and 5% on travel for interaction with other districts, conferences, etc
