The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of New York City’s children and families by providing child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care services. In child welfare, ACS contracts with private nonprofit organizations to support and stabilize families at risk of a crisis through preventive services and provides foster care services for children not able to safely remain at home. Each year, the agency’s Division of Child Protection responds to more than 50,000 reports of suspected child abuse or neglect. In juvenile justice, ACS manages and funds services including detention and placement, intensive community-based alternatives for youth, and support services for families. ACS is also a key part of NYCs early childhood and education continuum, providing child care assistance to thousands of child welfare involved and low-income children so they can access safe, affordable, quality care.
The Division of Child and Family Well-Being is seeking a self-motivated, executive with a coaching leadership style to support strategic planning and implementation of injury prevention strategies in the Office of Child Safety and Injury Prevention (OCSIP). The OCSIP provides information, resources and training to parents, caregivers and child-serving professionals to reduce risk and eliminate preventable child injuries and fatalities. The office focuses on: 1) raising awareness about the leading causes of childhood injuries, and 2) connecting parents, caregivers and child-serving professionals to safety information and resources.
Key responsibilities of the position include:
- Develop and strengthen productive relationships with intra and inter-agency partners to support the implementation of cohesive marketing, outreach and program strategies focused on child safety and injury prevention.
- Collaborate with External Affairs and inter-agency partners, as necessary, to respond to emerging child injury risks, including supporting the development of marketing campaigns and tactics that reach critically impacted populations across NYC.
- In coordination with External Affairs, conduct outreach and communication strategies to engage and support City Hall and other city agencies involved in public health and child injury prevention to achieve OCSIP’s injury prevention objectives and racial equity/inclusion goals.
- Provide strategic guidance to adapt and amplify effective approaches for reaching and educating parents, caregivers and child-serving professionals citywide and in high priority neighborhoods.
- Develop a comprehensive strategy for disseminating child injury prevention information and resources to the public, including researching potential in-kind or budget-relieving promotional and distribution partnerships.
- Support other OCSIP priority projects as new needs emerge.
