SUMMARY:
The Legal Services Division at the California Farm Bureau has an immediate opening for an Associate Counsel.

ORGANIZATION INFORMATION:
The Legal Services Division provides support to the California Farm Bureau (CAFB) on a broad range of issues. CAFB is California's largest farm organization, working to protect family farms and ranches on behalf of its nearly 32,000 members statewide and as part of a nationwide network of more than 5.5 million members. Organized over 100 years ago as a non-profit, voluntary, non-governmental and nonpartisan organization, it advances its mission throughout the state together with its 53 county Farm Bureaus. Throughout its history, CAFB has maintained a reputation for innovative programs aimed at one goal: providing the best possible services available to farmers and rural residents.

QUALIFICATIONS:
The Attorney will be expected to meet the following requirements:

• Represent and advise CAFB at the administrative, trial, and appellate court levels on local, state, and federal issues.
• Prepare and review letters, briefs, memoranda, opinions, and pleadings as necessary to advance advocacy within the appropriate state courts, federal courts, and regulatory agencies.
• Research, analyze, and interpret proposed and existing laws, court decisions, legislation, and other legal authorities.
• Be familiar with legal litigation documents, court procedures, and legal terminology as required in performing the varied assigned projects within established time constraints.
• Travel to attend meetings or regulatory hearings as needed.
• Graduation from an accredited law school with a Juris Doctorate degree.
• A member of the California State Bar in good standing.
• Litigation experience is preferred.
• Knowledge and willingness to learn about state and federal laws relating to water quality, land use, endangered species, environmental, cannabis, and hemp matters.

• Ability to successfully handle and prioritize a variety of legal projects in civil and administrative litigation; demonstrate an ability to work well with others of diverse professional and personal backgrounds; and work well under pressure.

SKILLS & ABILITIES:

• Awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of agriculture and CAFB members.
• Plan and organize workload to comply with established time constraints.
• Work cooperatively with other attorneys, clients, and support staff.
• Ability to work independently and go the extra mile on behalf of CAFB and its members.
• Possess strong oral and written communication skills.
• Produce legal documents of a high professional caliber.
• Ability to assess fact patterns and recommend and execute an effective course of action.
• Demonstrated strong analytical and legal research skills and methods.
• Familiarity with and ability to effectively use office equipment, including personal computer and related software applications, phone, and copiers.

WRITING SAMPLE:
Candidates are required to submit a writing sample which may be a recent brief, research memorandum, or legal memorandum.
