Analytical laboratory technician
Job description
We are seeking a full-time laboratory technician to join our analytical laboratory team, performing routine analysis of essential oils and cannabis products. You will be provided with training and mentorship designed to foster technical skills and given the opportunity to deliver impactful results.
Major duties and responsibilities
Perform test procedures on essential oils and cannabis-containing products using various instruments. Write reports to document results and convey results to clients.
- Perform physical and chemical testing on all samples received by our laboratory.
- Accurately execute testing per applicable written procedures and methods, such as HPLC, GC-MS, and PCR.
- Fill out laboratory documentation accurately and document work in a timely, clear, and organized manner.
- Operate and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accurate analysis and results.
- Become proficient with all instrumental, analytical, and data analysis software.
- Develop and write SOPs for laboratory procedures.
Document test results, prepare and review testing reports.
- Record test results and generate reports.
- Aid in reviewing and filing reports.
- Aid in reviewing data and laboratory notebooks prior to data release.
Support laboratory equipment maintenance.
- Aid in maintaining laboratory equipment as required by calibration and maintenance schedule.
- Aid in troubleshooting laboratory equipment as needed.
- Aid in maintaining a safe and clean working environment.
Preferred qualification, knowledge, and skills
- An associate or BS degree in physical or life sciences with an emphasis in analytical chemistry, biology, biochemistry, or related disciplines.
- Strong background in quantitative analytical techniques.
- Experience with microbiology and sterile technique.
- Knowledge of laboratory software applications.
- Attention to detail and demonstrated organizational skills.
- Excellent communication skills both written and oral.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment to support business needs.
- Must be 21 years of age and able to pass a government background check.
- Must be able to work in a work environment with a strong aroma.

- Review methods and analytical procedures for improvement and accuracy.
- Ensure samples are prepared accurately for analytical testing.
- Prepare, maintain, and perform microbiological, analytical, and chemical testing.
- Operate scientific equipment such as: GCMS, HPLC, Distillations, Autoclave, Analytical balance, pH meter, microscopes and more.
- Prepare and dispense solutions and chemical materials for lab use, which may include: media solvents, reagents, oils, aroma chemicals, acids, bases, buffers, stains, and unknowns.
- Assist in special projects and experiments.
- Perform calibration curves and other calculations associated with the various testing.
- Prepare media for use in the growth and propagations of microorganisms.
- Monitor, collect, and process waste materials and chemicals. Properly process and dispose of waste.
- Assist in the distillation of raw material to obtain pure oil samples.
- Receive samples from customers and catalog samples in the appropriate manifest.
- Work with office manager to ensure samples are retained and easily accessed.
- Perform routine standardization and maintenance of all lab equipment.
- Order, receive, and stock materials, supplies, inventories, and equipment for laboratory and general use.
- Clean up after each lab session by washing, and if necessary, sterilizing tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Other tasks and duties as assigned.
