Performs Other Duties as Assigned In Other Plant Protection Programs

Qualifications:
Vocational/Technical degree in agriculture, horticulture, environmental science, pest control, entomology or a closely related field from an accredited college AND One year of experience in a directly related area OR Two years of college which included 12 semester hours or 20 quarter hours in chemistry or life sciences AND One year of experience in a directly related area OR Two years of experience required at the lower level Agriculture Inspector 1 (RCT040) or position equivalent.

This position has statewide duties but is primarily responsible for inspection activity in the Southern part of the state.
This position will report to the Tifton office on a regular basis for training, application reviews, and other assignments.
DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Implements Georgia and U.S. Domestic Hemp Production Program
- Must read and be familiar with federal and Georgia laws and regulations pertaining to hemp
- Schedules and performs audit inspections of Licensed Georgia Hemp Growers and Permittees. May also perform audits of sampling agents used by the Department
- Reports all violations of the Georgia Hemp Program and/or U.S. Domestic Hemp Production Program to Supervisor and Hemp Administrator
- Collects hemp samples if Department’s sampling agents are unavailable
- Performs inspections and follow-up visits to verify grower compliance with corrective action plans
- Verifies disposal of Cannabis that tests above federal established THC level
- Assists and performs reviews of Hemp Grower License and Processor Permit applications and renewals
- Answers email and telephone questions regarding hemp laws and regulations. Attends local industry/ grower meetings. May serve as a speaker
- Provides information and may assist Supervisor when submitting monthly and annual reports for the Georgia Hemp Program to USDA-AMS
Performs Other Duties as Assigned In Other Plant Protection Programs
- Inspects live plant growers and dealers (sod farms, nurseries, tree farms, etc.) to ensure compliance with state regulations and proper maintenance of plants.
- Verifies compliance with Department-issued agreements and certifications for interstate and international export of plants, fruits, vegetables, etc.
- Performs state and federal phytosanitary certification inspections as requested
- Performs apiary (bee) inspections as requested
- Monitors crops and/or environs for specific agricultural pests
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, horticulture, biological sciences or a directly related field OR Ownership or management experience in an agricultural or horticultural business.
- Working knowledge of Windows computer operating system and applications.
