Job Description:
NEW cannabis testing laboratory opening in Reno, Nevada. We will be an ISO/IEC 17025:2017 accredited cannabis testing laboratory. We have an immediate need for a Lead Chemist/Lab Director to join the team. Under Nevada law, all medicinal and adult-use cannabis products are required to undergo mandatory safety and potency testing to measure cannabinoids, terpenoids, mycotoxins, heavy metals, pesticide residues, residual solvent levels, and microbiological contaminants. Analytical Chemist should have experience with LCMS. This position must work under the current ISO 17025 standards, and will be responsible for all work performed in support of their assigned assay. PREFERENCE PLACED ON CANDIDATES WITH SHIMADZU EXPERIENCE.
Looking for a self-motivated scientist with high attention to detail, can work independently, provide leadership in a team environment, and be willing to fill multiple roles. Responsibilities for the position include becoming proficient on all chemical analysis assays, process production samples, take a lead role on R&D projects, method validation, data review, and assist in instrument maintenance and repair.
Ability To:
· Must be able to sign a no-compete agreement.

· Recruit, supervise and develop lab technicians: plan, direct, coach, counsel, mentor, delegate & train.
· Interpret a variety of instructions with abstract and/or concrete variables.

· Establish & maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, other Departments/Officers.
· Maintain a high level of professionalism & confidentiality.
· Familiar with Nevada State regulations for cannabis (a plus).
Responsibilities:
· Execute sample analysis for cannabis clients using Liquid Chromatography instruments (LC-MS).
· Routine analysis of samples using analytical procedures for which training has occurred.
· Participate in OOS & CAPA reports, as assigned. Must be able to obtain traceable, reproducible, and reliable results with limited supervision.
· Scientific writing for reporting, data management reporting, and ability to follow standard operating procedures a must.
· Routine and non-routine equipment maintenance/calibration of analytical instruments.
· Successful completion of proficiency testing samples and initial demonstration of capability to demonstrate competence as required for certifications or customer requests.
· Must have experience with analytical techniques including, but not limited to: LCMS, HPLC, and ICPMS.
· Must have a history of working in a production laboratory.
· Must have experience with analytical techniques including, but not limited to: LCMS, HPLC, and ICPMS and an understanding of meeting deadlines.
· Development and implement lab procedures/manuals & drafting new procedures/training procedures.
· Development and implement in revision of existing procedures.
· Previous experience with Shimadzu equipment preferred.
· Proficient with current computer systems including Microsoft office.
· Ability to work in a team environment Hands on experience within organic extraction, analytical chemistry techniques, and product development ISO 17025 experience.
· Be able to prioritize daily test
· Write lab procedures for intake, testing, and destroying of samples.
· Must train lab technicians that will work directly under this positions.
· Good laboratory documentation practices
· Conduct analytical testing in a prompt, accurate and reliable manner according to established standard operating procedures (SOP)
· Perform data analysis and peer review of data for accuracy and completeness
· Prepare solutions and samples for routine testing
· Prepare documentation for reporting of analytical results
· Routine maintenance and troubleshooting of analytical instrumentation
· Test methods involve the operation of a variety of analytical instrumentation including, but not limited to: HPLC, GCMS, LCMS/MS
· Other duties as assigned.
Required Travel:
The employee is frequently required to travel throughout the state of Nevada and Northern California for sample pick-up.
Computers and Office Equipment:
Computer and relevant software applications; calculator; telephone system; postage machine; facsimile; copier; shredder.
Required Physical Activities:
While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, hear, stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and occasionally required to climb, balance, crouch and crawl; frequently required to lift up to 10 pounds; occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and to maintain body equilibrium while bending at the waist or at the knees. The employee is routinely required to work with their hands in seizing, holding, handling or grasping motions and with the fingers in fingering, picking and pinching actions. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
