About the Division:
The Communications Division operates a 24-hour-a-day, 365-day-a-year statewide emergency communications system, which includes eight centers. The division provides emergency dispatch services for the Washington State Patrol, and 18 other State, Federal, and Tribal Agencies on contract basis including Department of Fish and Wildlife, Washington State Liquor & Cannabis Board, State Parks, U.S. Marshal and Muckleshoot Tribal Police.
Duties
A Communications Officer (CO) 3's primary responsibility is to supervise the day-to-day operations of a shift, ensuring proper staffing, providing operational guidance, responding to internal and external requests and ensuring policies and procedures are followed. They evaluate employee performance through observation, documentation and yearly evaluations to ensure that all personnel perform at a level that meets or exceeds customer expectations. Train, develop, recognize, award, correct and/or discipline personnel; and identify and resolve problems at the lowest level. Officer and public lives are at risk without a competent, fully trained staff to appropriately respond to their needs.

- Train, develop, and mentor staff
- Provide coverage when needed for the radio and telephone support
Qualifications
Required:
- Current WSP employee with two years' experience as a CO 1 and one year substantiated prior supervisory experience of two or more personnel
- Hold permanent status as a CO 2 within the last five years.
- High School diploma or GED equivalent.
- ACCESS Level 2 certification.
- Training - must attend the Leadership in Police Organizations course at the WSP Training Division and attain certification.
- Must attend and successfully pass the Supervisor Basic course at the Academy and attain Career Level Certification.
- Knowledgeable of CAD, one or more telephone systems, two-way radio operation, OMNIXX/ACCESS and other computer applications, and multiple investigatory databases.
- Working knowledge of WSP, Communications Division, and Communications Center polices and procedures.
- Must use good Interpersonal, communications, judgment, listening, and training skills.
