Grassdoor connects licensed cannabis retailers to customers throughout Los Angeles. We are seeking a Buyer 1 to join our rapidly growing cannabis technology company. The Buyer 1 must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and be responsible for professionally and effectively sourcing products, materials and supplies for all of Grassdoor, while executing our product purchasing processes, leveraging vendor relationships, engaging in effective price control and negotiations, and serving as a business partner with each internal company department. This role should optimize quality, procurement costs, product prices, and internal customer relationships within the organization while managing external sourcing/supplier relationships. To be a successful Buyer 1, you should be able to work with the relevant departments to ensure that costs remain within budget and be able to develop and implement innovative ideas to enhance sourcing strategies. This role has access to confidential and proprietary data and information.
Responsibilities
- Sourcing suppliers and maintaining long-lasting relationships with them as well as existing suppliers.
- Obtaining quotes from different suppliers and assessing quotes and compiling a detailed assessment of cost breakdowns.
- Generating quote comparisons and contributing to internal supplier selection based on the quotes.
- Preparing purchase orders, processing purchase approvals, and initiating order placement in accordance with Grassdoor purchasing policies.
- Maintaining direct contact with internal customers and our supply chain with a focus on minimizing cost, shortening delivery times, and maximizing quality.
- Adhering to existing purchasing policies, processes, and procedures and assisting in improving, developing, managing, and implementing new procurement practices or procedures as appropriate.
- Reviewing any purchase order claims and/or contracts for conformance to company policy.
- Developing and implementing supply chain dashboard KPI's to ensure business critical objectives are met.
- Providing expert sourcing and supply chain skills to internal and external supplier chain customers.
- Providing spend analysis and purchase price variance reporting to Sr. Management.
- Identifying opportunities to further reduce costs, cycle time, and total cost of ownership.
- Guiding and assisting team members and business partners on procurement best practices, e- procurement technology, and supplier relationship management practices.
- Assisting in the resolution of any vendor discrepancies relating to: invoices, purchase orders, missing COA's, and regulatory or policy compliance violations.
- Communicating with vendors and our team to coordinate deliveries, confirm invoices and manifests, and ensuring quantity/quality control checks are taking place with each delivery.
- Tracking performance metrics including but not limited to supplier performance, fill rates, on-time deliveries, supplier quality, and financial (AP) performance, and inventory levels.
- Performing any other duties and tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic to advanced purchasing principles and practices in both direct and indirect buying.
- General understanding of supplier management procedure, philosophies, and techniques.
- Strong business acumen with a resilient and entrepreneurial spirit with a growth mindset.
- Experience in creating, maintaining, and building professional relationships and rapport.
- Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in handling multiple tasks and the ability to prioritize and highly varied work level in order to maintain required productivity levels
- Strong organizational skills and ability to coordinate multiple projects/activities simultaneously.
- Self-motivated, self-directed and able to identify and anticipate tasks to perform.
- Strong time management, attention to detail, and follow through.
- Ability to work independently and/or to work well with others in a team environment to complete specific tasks and meet critical deadlines.
- Demonstrated expertise with MS Word and Excel
- Aptitude in decision-making and problem solving along with the flexibility to adapt to change.
- This role will require limited travel to and from our distribution hubs, with intermittent travel to trade shows, buyer's markets, and suppliers' facilities.
- Due to MAUCRSA compliance, this position requires candidates to be 21 years of age and to undergo a criminal background check.
