Our cannabis compliance laboratory is seeking a qualified candidate for an Analytical Chemist II (ICP-MS) position located in Gardena, CA. We are a commercial cannabis compliance and R&D laboratory. The Analytical Chemist II (ICP-MS) position is responsible for analyzing samples and reviewing data prior to release for compliance testing.
Analytical Chemist II (ICP-MS) responsibilities:
- Intaking and processing raw samples for metals analysis
- Running cannabis compliance samples (ICP-MS)
- Documenting work performed in laboratory notes, instrument logbooks, and worksheets.
- Maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
- Working with instrumentation software
- Maintaining assigned laboratory instruments and equipment
- Performing calibrations and routine maintenance on instrumentation
- Performing data review
Required Skills and Experience:
- Basic understanding of analytical chemistry and analytical methodologies
- At least 1+ year(s) of experience with ICP-MS (Shimadzu experience a plus)
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work as part of a team, self-motivating, and a positive attitude
- Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, keep accurate records, and follow instructions
- Adept at interpretation of ICP-MS data
- Strong background with analytical chemistry techniques, methods, and calculations
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment
- Method development and R&D experience a plus
- Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in relevant field such as chemistry, biochemistry, biology, or chemical engineering. Experience may be substituted for education.

General Accountability:
The primary purpose of this position is to prepare, analyze and evaluate samples using ICP-MS and to report data for release to clients and regulatory bodies. Knowledge of computers and mathematics are required. Ability to work independently is preferred. Duties will include maintenance of instruments and development of new methods.
Responsibilities
Specific Responsibilities:
- Prepare and analyze samples for ICP-MS;
- Responsible for meeting calibration and QA requirements;
- Document activities and report results in a concise and accurate manner using ICP-MS software LIMS;
- Coordinate with other laboratory analysts;
- Perform routine instrument maintenance procedures;
- Peer review ICP-MS data;
- Report data and review reported results;
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Possess a general knowledge of chemistry fundamentals and the ability to perform concentration and solution calculations; ability to understand terminology and principals in order to comply with analytical methods;
- Possess strong computer skills with knowledge in Excel and Microsoft Word; experience with or ability to learn industry specific software such as Agilent Masshunter and OpenLab CDS
- Organized, detail oriented, and possess excellent problem solving capabilities; be able to work independently of supervision and work well with other analysts on the team;
- Ability to work overtime when necessary to meet the Decano Analytical Laboratories needs.
