Job purpose
The Cultivation Manager will be responsible for managing every aspect of the farm operations, farm employees (including seasonal employees), every aspect of the plants’ life cycle, from clones to harvesting. Also responsible for manicuring and maintaining gardening practices on all plants throughout all stages including mom, clone, veg, and flower. Specialists will also be required to maintain the cleanliness of production areas and maintenance involved with their corresponding team. This includes field work, weeding, hoeing, trimming and cultivating. This position is also responsible for entering accurate product weight into METRC.
Duties and responsibilities
- Develop SOPs, Standard Operating Procedure, for all needed aspects of Daily Operations
- Oversees Daily Business Operations
- Developing and Implementing growth strategies
- Train lower-level management/supervisors and staff
- Evaluate Performance and Productivity
- Participate in developing and implementing operational rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
- Manage, supervise and direct the activities of assigned staff, and make recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, termination or advancement of employees.
- Teach and enhance the capacity of farm personnel
- Provide hands-on support and training to all employees
- Manage and Oversee all plant growing activities
- Understand and scale production of a high value, high attention crop
- Create, design, manage, and operate systems, from irrigation to pest management, as well as seasonal field prep and breakdown, to improve efficiency and effectiveness of the farm production
- Manage and Monitor growing conditions and manage changes in humidity, moisture, temperature and other cultivation procedures
- Manicure and maintain gardening practices on all plants throughout their life cycle
- Mother care, cloning, transplanting, gardening, germinating, cultivating, fieldwork, mowing, weeding, watering, fertilizing, pest control, netting etc
- Harvesting and processing
- Cleaning and maintaining all equipment that is used within the cultivation area
- Comprehend and follow all warning labels, instructions, and SOP’s
- Identify crop issues and diagnosis of unknown health or damage problems
- Maintains records of crop activities including METRC, as well as growth, harvest, and replanting schedules
- Insures all tasks are in compliance with OLCC regulations, as well as Environmental, Health, and Safety protocols
- Maintains greenhouse upkeep
- Teach and enhance the capacity of farm personnel
- Provide hands-on support and training to all employees
- Address employees concerns with other employees and provide resolution if possible
- Review weekly schedule to identify any possible days of shortage or overage of labor and who is available to call-in if needed
- Comfortable handling and using agricultural inputs such as fertilizers, growing media, and pest control products
- Familiarity with proper moisture management techniques
- Familiarity with proper nutrient management and testing procedures
- Experience with automated greenhouse environmental controls
- Must maintain good personal hygiene while working with and processing marijuana
- Track the amount of unusable waste for each plant/batch, in addition to usable by-products Demonstrate proficiency with weights, measurements, and math
- Assure daily compliance with Company policies including but not limited to: state/local regulation compliance, security protocols, access protocols, dress code, and work schedules
- Maintain employee information that is given to Management specifically
- Must be proficient in having phone conversations with any potential new hires as well as participating in the interview process
- Maintain all employees regular and overtime hours
- Enforce policies and procedures set into place by the company
- Must keep communication boards updated (CREW, etc) as directed
- Maintain and oversee a work schedule for all farm employees
- Review weekly schedule to identify any possible days of shortage or overage of labor and who is available to call-in if needed
- Maintain a professional manner to all peers, employees,Executive Team, Ownership, contractors, vendors, ect.
- Address employees concerns with other employees and provide resolution if possible
- Must be proficient in creating/building reports for executive team
- Must be able to proficiently handle money for paying employees their payroll
- Must be proficient in METRC and oversee all METRC activities pertaining to the farm operations
- Responsible for overseeing and delegating clean-up of all planting and processing areas and equipment at the end of every day
- Responsible for overseeing and maintaining seed bank
- Manage and oversee testing preparation
- Manage and oversee Drying, curing, and packaging
- Perform other related duties and projects as business needs require at the direction of Ownership, Executive Team, and Upper Management (When pertinent)
Qualifications
Minimum 2 yr Hands on experience growing cannabis
Experience in managing farm operations
Experience managing a team of both full time and seasonal employees
Enforces a high personal moral standard
Experienced in the use and management and maintenance of farm equipment
Motivated to fix problems without direction
Must have experience potting, planting, harvesting, and trimming
Additional experience working outdoors on a farm, golf course or landscaping preferred
Must be able to follow directions and learn different growing methods
Displays personal drive, motivation, and perseverance to identify and fill needs
Must be able to work effectively both independently and in a team setting
Must be able to complete numerous manual labor task in a timely manner
Communicates effectively and able to work with other staff members
manage multiple demands through strong organizational skills, efficiency, and prioritization
Attention to detail
Ability to pass an Ontario City background check
Ability to work in a fast pace environment
Ability to be flexible in the workplace and work multiple positions
Ability to work as a team, and work well with others

Have knowledge of cannabis, and all of the cannabis products purchased for the retail location

Must be able to work weekends and some holidays
Working conditions/ Physical Requirements
- Must have the ability to reach at or below/above shoulder level on a continuous basis
- Must be able to work in an environment which requires both indoor and outdoor work while at times weather changes will occur (may be hot, cold, or windy)
- Must be able to handle somewhat stressful environment and maintain physical stamina and proper mental attitude while dealing effectively with daily tasks
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time, walk, reach with hands and arms, as well as stooping, kneeling, crouching and climbing
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds, often lift up to 25 pounds, and constantly lift up to 40 pounds
- Ability to see at close and distant ranges, as well as peripheral vision to notice safety hazards
- Ability to do tedious work with hands, like using small trimming scissors
