Positions & Duties
This recruitment is for an Accountant I/II position in the Revenue Compliance and Monitoring group within the Revenue Management division of the City’s Finance Department. The Revenue Compliance and Monitoring group is responsible for auditing, analyzing, monitoring, reporting, and maintaining compliance of a portfolio in excess of $500 million. The groups revenue sources assigned includes, but are not limited to, Sales and Use Taxes, Hotel Taxes and Fees, Utility Taxes, Real Estate Transfer Taxes, Franchise Fees, and Cannabis Business Taxes.
Under direction and supervision of the group’s Program Manager and Senior Analyst, this Accountant I/II position is expected to conduct financial audits, analyze large amounts of financial data, comprise cyclical and ad-hoc reports, and perform monthly financial reconciliations. The selected candidate will be required to multi-task, juggle multiple assignments at once, successfully work independently and in team settings, and navigate the complexities of assigned revenue programs.
The essential duties of this Accountant I/II position include:
- Tracking revenues for various tax and fee programs.
- Compliance reviews for various tax and fee programs and preparing clear and concise reports of audit findings and outcomes.
- Present reports to managerial staff and businesses/taxpayers under review.
- Prepare monthly reconciliations of the City’s centralized billing system and associated accounts receivables.
- Process financial journal entries in the City’s Financial Management System.
- Review and approve the financial entries for sub-system interfaces to the City’s Financial Management System.
- Research local, state, and federal legislative updates related to assigned tax and fee programs and perform public outreach for ordinance changes.
- Analyze and update various City aging reports and bad-debt receivables.
- Identify and process claims for unclaimed City property.
- Perform fiscal and budget analysis for various aspects of the Revenue Management division.
- Other duties, as needed.
COVID-19 REMOTE WORK
Please be aware that as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Accountant I/II will most likely be expected to work remotely at least some, if not all, of the time until further notice. If this is required, the Accountant I/II will be assigned a laptop by the City with all software and software access required to perform the assigned duties. The actual salary shall be determined by the final candidate’s qualifications and experience. In addition to the starting salary, employees in the Accountant I/II classification shall also receive an approximate five percent (5%) ongoing non-pensionable compensation pay.

Accountant II: $76,939.20-$93,496.00

Qualifications
Accountant I
Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting or related field, which must include twelve (12) semester units in accounting subjects.
Acceptable Substitution for Accountant I Experience in the maintenance of financial records, systems or transactions may be substituted for the education requirement on a year-for-year basis. There will be no substitution for the twelve (12) semester units in accounting subject
Accountant II
Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Accounting or related field, which must include eighteen (18) semester units in accounting subjects AND two (2) years of progressively responsible accounting or auditing experience.
Acceptable Substitution for Accountant II: None.
