Analytical Chemist – Cannabis Lab

Job Summary: We are looking for an Analytical Chemist to conduct routine testing using GC-MS, LC-MS/MS and ICP-MS. This position will also support further method development and validation efforts. This position will support a variety of analytical techniques, under the guidance of the Scientific Director and in collaboration with colleagues.
Specific Responsibilities:
§ Operate and maintain analytical instrumentation (LCMS/MS, GC-MS, ICP-MS, etc.) for optimum performance according to laboratory SOPs, manufacturer recommendations and professional experience.
- Work with the Scientific Director to develop laboratory SOPs, forms, and other documentation related to chemical and instrumental analysis.
- Prepare customer samples for chemical analysis according to laboratory procedures using established analytical methods and quality control protocols.
- Support method development and validation efforts by conducting analytical experiments at the direction of the Scientific Director and senior scientific staff.
- Work in a fast-paced, team-focused laboratory environment with high sample volume and guaranteed turn-around times.
- Ensure that all work is performed and documented in compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Use the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to report results obtained from various analyses.
- Assist the Scientific Director with analytical needs of the laboratory as needed.
Job Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated proficiency with operation and maintenance of LC-MS/MS, GC/MS and instrumentation. Additional experience with other instrumental techniques, such as ICP-MS, HPLC (preferably Shimadzu) is valuable.
- Experience with sample preparation techniques, including the use of analytical balances, micropipettes, and volumetric glassware.
- Basic understanding of analytical methods for inorganic chemical analysis.
- Proficient with operation of common laboratory equipment such as water baths, moisture analyzers, centrifuges, etc.
- Experience with quality control procedures for maintaining detailed and accurate records necessary for validation of analytical data.
- Proficient with computer applications including MS Office products, LIMS systems and instrument software.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year accredited college or university in the chemical, environmental, or biological sciences.
- Three to five years’ experience working in a regulated testing or production lab environment.
- 1-3 years experience operating and maintaining instrumentation.
Physical Demands:
- Able to communicate clearly with staff, management, and clients
- Able to sit and /or stand as needed for 100% of an 8-hour day
- Dexterity in hands and fingers to operate computer and other equipment

Microbiologist - Cannabis Laboratory

Job Summary: North Coast Testing Laboratories, LLC (NCTL) is a cannabis testing laboratory serving the Ohio Medical Marijuana market. NCTL is a production lab that analyzes cannabis flower, concentrates, and processed products for licensed producers throughout the state. Our team is looking for a Microbiologist to perform microbiological testing on customer samples according to approved laboratory methods using proper manual microbiological procedures and advanced instrumentation.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Perform various microbial analyses on customer samples such as total coliform, enterobacteria, E. coli, and salmonella using manual plate count and film plate methods following laboratory standard operating procedures and ensuring adherence to quality assurance and quality control requirements.
- Perform validation, troubleshooting, and maintenance on new and existing microbial techniques.
- Perform Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) methods to detect and quantify pathogens of interest in customer samples. This includes the ability to interpret qPCR data.
- Assess data compliance and validity using established quality assurance and quality control protocol to ensure that all work is performed and documented properly and in compliance with internal procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Use the laboratory’s Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to report results obtained from various analyses.
- Provide training for the laboratory staff on microbial and analytical methods and instrumentation.
- Perform new method development and validation under the guidance of the Scientific Director.
- Assist the Scientific Director with project management and other direct analytical needs of the laboratory as needed.
- Work with Scientific Director prepare and review laboratory standard operating procedures (SOPs), forms, and other documentation related to chemical and instrumental analysis.
- Evaluate microbial methods, processes, and instrumentation to identify areas of improvement and development.
Job Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to solve complex problems using scientific and quality-based troubleshooting techniques.
- Knowledge of microorganisms (ie. relation to each other, identification, and sources of growth)
- Proficiency in the operation and troubleshooting techniques of various types of advanced instrumentation employing qPCR methods.
- Strong understanding of quality control procedures necessary for validation of analytical data, keeping detailed and accurate records.
- Proficiency with electronic applications including MS Word, MS Excel, etc.
Required Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year accredited college or university in the chemical, environmental, or biological sciences and at least four (4) years experience the area of microbiology. An advanced degree is preferred.
- Experience working in a production lab is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of various microbial analytical techniques including manual plate methods and advanced instrumentation, procedures, and QA/QC criteria used in an analytical and/or environmental laboratory.
