Potomac Farms Nursery (PFN) in Shepherdstown, West Virginia, is seeking a full-time Greenhouse Grower and Manager. PFN sits on just over an acre of land in the heart of Shepherdstown. The nursery has been family owned and operated since 1984 and specializes in retail products to include a variety of annuals, perennials, woody stem plants as well as gardening and landscaping materials.

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

• Day-to-day management of the business and have experience in creating and following the production plan to include ordering of materials in preparation for sale at our retail site as well as oversee the greenhouse staff.
• Work to ensure the business has the best team possible. This includes forecasting, scheduling, hiring, training, and evaluating and developing employees.
• Ensure the safety of employees through compliance with Environmental and Health and Safety regulations and maintaining an attitude that all incidents are preventable.
• Plan and manage the varieties and quantities of annuals/perennials indicated on the production plan on a schedule that provides a continuous supply of product available for sale.
• Ensure excellent heath and growth of plants including proper watering, fertilization, pruning, spacing, spraying, integrated pest management (IPM), and temperature control.
• Management of goods, materials, supplies and equipment are properly utilized and maintained.

Requirements:

• Highly motivated, self-starter with excellent communication and leadership skills
• Minimum of 5 years of supervisory and nursery industry/horticulture experience.
• Practical experience and knowledge in plant cultivation and identification.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and production/inventory management systems
• Pesticide Applicator’s Certificate
• Available to work evenings, weekends and holidays, as well as, able to work physically in a role requiring extended periods of time standing, walking, bending and reaching in a wide range of weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, windy)
