About Us
QCHR, Inc. is a full-service HR company catering to many industries and niche markets. Located in North Orange County, we primarily service clients from South OC to West LA, from San Gabriel Valley to San Bernardino County; and a handful out of the Southern California area. We work with small companies with just a handful of employees, to franchises with multiple locations, to large companies with over 100 employees, in the manufacturing, service/trade, real estate, legal, cannabis, hospitality, medical, professional and management industries. We have client demand which requires us to bring another Consultant into our group.
The Job
We have need for a California-knowledge-based Generalist (with PHR or SHRM-CP preferred) to assist us with project work as it comes in. The work is client driven, so there is ebb and flow, and timelines/deadlines that are expected by clients. It will generally be 10-30 hours a week of work to start; but the more projects you want to do and can successfully deliver, the more will be given to you.
Clients call us for HR Q&A on-demand ranging from simple questions to strategic issues. Many are transactional HR issues and we need to do the work for them or with them. So many examples...
- fill out a termination packet for them and send to the client, then coach them on the termination process
- getting a second opinion on their annual raise amounts
- coaching a supervisor to coach their employee on a behavior that needs improvement, or, having a three way conversation with that supervisor and staff member, or creating a PIP for them
- answering the "how do I pay when this happens...?"
Projects can be anything from writing employee handbooks, safety plans (IIPP), COVID plans and job descriptions (templates provided), to recruiting (sourcing, screening, phone interviewing, onsite interviewing, hiring and onboarding), to payroll related items (entering staff into the payroll platform, update/make changes to census/HRIS), or processing timesheets, obtaining payroll reports, EDD forms, Workers Comp audits, OSHA filings and requests, to compliance audits or training, etc. Experience of being at the generalist level is required as we can't train on these assignments other than to share what the end product needs to be for client satisfaction. Being "interrupt-driven" and efficient is best; we often take what we have done before and customize it further for the next client - why re-create the wheel? We need someone with a flair for the written word (grammar at a high level!) and solid with PC skills, excellent Microsoft suite experience, and who has a quiet/private home office set up/available to them. Want even more hours? You would answer the business phone and "triage" client calls as well as the project work. Employee relations experience and CA compliance mandatory.
While you can work anytime you want to, it is expected that this consultant is generally available during normal business hours for any phone calls or timely communication ... at least a good chunk of time once in the morning hours and once in the afternoon hours to respond to calls, emails. We all work remote primarily, but this specific position will need to see clients for onsite and project work as requested. Occasionally, our clients will want onsite support; the consultant who has been working with that client will usually be the one to go onsite for the project requested - it could be once a year, once a quarter, once a week... whenever your assigned clients request our support in person. Because we may be asked at any time to go onsite to support a client, we will require this position to be local to our primary client base. Living between Long Beach and Santa Ana will put you in the "middle" of our service area but you may have a project requesting your onsite presence in West LA or SF Valley, or Pasadena, Rancho Cucamonga, Corona, Temecula, or San Clemente... all over So Cal!. Living commutable to Placentia/Yorba Linda area will allow you to work at our office when desired. Overall our clients are generally flexible and mutually accommodating on meeting times, and usually request support during regular business hours, so those having a full time job or commitments elsewhere during most of the business day, or those located outside of a reasonable commute to most southern California communities, would not be ideal for this position.
Your skills needed:
- Experience working as an HR Generalist and an understanding of CA state compliance, payroll related red-flags/issues, safety and workers’ comp, employee relations, hiring, discipline and terminations.
- Experience working in HR administration and an understanding of HRIS (i.e., hands on experience with platforms like Paycomm, ADP Run or Paychex, Ease or Mineral, T-sheets, or recruiting platforms and databases). Extensive knowledge of new hire paperwork, HR forms, filing systems, leaves of absences, job descriptions, filling out discipline or termination forms, etc.
- Organizational skills that are “extra” in every way; the ability to and desire to communicate schedules, project coordination and conclusions, accomplishments, etc.
- Unwavering commitment to customer service at all levels across multiple organizations
- A welcoming personality with excellent internal/external customer service; must be assertive when dealing with situations which may be uncomfortable.
- Ability to maintain a superior level of ethics, utmost professionalism, and be conservative in risk management.
- A “power user” level in Word (able to track change, format well, produce an aesthetically pleasing work product) with a “grammar police” persona, able to navigate and enter data quickly in Excel, and other common database applications. Prefer PC (versus Mac).
- Ability to speak and present yourself professionally, be flexible in dealing with all types of clients and have integrity in time management with clients.
- Documentation of work completed; working closely with project manager to ensure customer service is being met at a high level.
Major Pluses: we’re going to call you FIRST if you have these to offer us
- 5+ years experience in progressive HR roles IN CALIFORNIA, with preference given to those possessing a PHR or SHRM-CP certification.
- Bi-lingual Spanish.
House accounts and most Generalist level work is paid at the base wage agreed to (generally $40-45/hr). Some projects pay more for higher level work ($50-75/hr). For full time staff exceeding 30 hrs a week, we offer paid life, group medical benefits, holidays and vacation; all staff is eligible for paid sick leave and 401K participation.
If this is something you are interested in, we would love to speak with you. We will be responding to qualified local/regional candidates.
NOTE - this is a heavy HR project processing/hands-on job, rather than strategic HR at the Director level. Since our consultant pay will vary based on the level of the work and is limited to the range we stated in this ad, we have limited senior HR projects at a higher bill rate available. We will still accept Sr HR resumes because we admire VP level consultants, however the amount of work available at the higher rate can be extremely limited so unless you can and will accept the majority of lower level HR assignments, we won't consider those who can work with us on a very limited or conditional basis at higher hourly rates.
EEO/principles only; no recruiters please.
