The Grower specializes in all stages of propagation and cultivation of young plants (mainly seed and vegetative annuals) during appropriate months; assistance with finished production growing and other duties outside of main young plant propagation periods

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Growing all phases of young crops from sow/stick to transplant, monitoring and control of the greenhouse environment, fertilization and nutrition management
• Young Plant Propagation experience required
• Growing finished product
• Ability to work with other members of the Growing Team to accomplish and complete tasks
• Crop record keeping
• IPM (Disease/Sanitation/Pesticide application)

Skills and Competencies

• Critical that this employee be a world class communicator
• Proven ability to recognize issues affecting yield and quickly identify solutions
• Ability to work with and lead a team of skilled horticultural workers
• Proven ability to identify efficiencies and resource saving solution

Requirements

• Degree in Horticulture or appropriate related field with five years growing experience OR Minimum five years of hands on experience in greenhouse and field growing in a leadership/decision making capacity
• Basic computer skills
• Candidate must be able to work weekends as appropriate
• Must be self motivated
• Bilingual communication skills, specifically Spanish preferred but not required.
• Ability to move or lift up to 40 lbs
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, motivation, organization and ability to follow-through with tasks and goals
• Must have proven leadership skills
• Functional experience with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word
