Biopharmaceutical Research Company’s Director of DEA Compliance is an experienced, diligent, and knowledgeable Compliance Manager with specific experience and qualifications pertaining to the Drug Enforcement Administration. Reporting to the
Company’s CEO, the Director of DEA Compliance is a key member of the Company’s team and integral to the achievement of the strategic, operational, and financial results of the business.
Responsibilities:
- Ensure personnel compliance with DEA regulations and internationally recognized drug regulations.
- Ensure daily operations comply with the manufacture of substances under the
Controlled Substances Act.
- Interact daily with the CEO.
- Supervise and ensure the proper DEA compliance training of all company personnel.
- Stay up to date on all regulatory DEA compliance issues.
- Input data into regulatory agencies’ compliance web-based systems.
- Prepare the site for and oversee DEA on-site regulatory and third-party audits.

- Maintain regulatory correspondence and quarterly and annual filings.

- Assure DEA compliance with 21 CFR 1300.

Qualifications:
- 4+ years’ experience in controlled substance manufacturing and or compliance.
- 3+ years’ experience interacting with DEA regulators.
- Experience with office software (e-mails, word processing, spreadsheets).
- 3+ years’ experience in DEA inspections and document review.
- Outstanding English written and verbal communication skills.
- Superior attention to detail.
- Discreet, energetic, and honest.

Company Description: Awe Sum Organics, Inc. is a well-established importer and marketer of organic fruit. The Company has been in business for 36 years and is a leader in the organic produce industry, with international and domestic product supply and distribution across the entire U.S. and Canada.
Description: This position reports to the CFO, and handles all of the grower accounting functions. Position ideally works from the office in Santa Cruz, Ca. or a hybrid remote / in-office arrangement.
This role will perform accounting of fresh produce imported into the U.S., resulting in the creation of grower lot sales and final settlement/liquidation reports including container lots and cartons received, fruit re-packaged or reconditioned, FOB sales pricing invoiced, adjusted, and collected. Account for product imported, bought, and sold, credits, Fair Trade Certification fees, grower distributions, and other functions.
Duties and Responsibilities Include
· Professionally communicate with company accounting, sales and operations teams, growers, and any other parties to resolve questions, issues and/or concerns that company team members, or growers may have.
· Support company management and accounting department with preparation of weekly and seasonal settlement and payment schedules to each growers, respond to company team and grower questions promptly, setup of grower contracts in Prophet ERP at beginning of season for each grower, settle grower account sales timely in accordance to contract at end of season, team with company accounting, sales, and operations department prior to settlement to review AR collection status on open invoices, ensure that regular payments to growers are made timely.
· Timely completion of assigned period-end and year-end closing tasks. Period-end to include completion of settlement posting and report accuracy for all active grower lots. Completion of received lot recaps. Year-end to also include confirmation of fruit and packaging inventories; supervision of reconciliation of CHEP pallets and reallocation of costs to projects.
· Produce timely grower and sales reports and prepare other weekly reports for management, sales team, and grower review.
· Grower payable reconciliations and review.
· Process payments and settlements to growers and third parties.
· Assist CFO with annual budgeting process including tracking of expenditures.
· Compliance with regulatory requirements associated with the packing and marketing of fresh produce, including communication with regulatory groups.
· Partners with CFO on Prophet ERP to document processes, identify improvements, test of any new development and troubleshoot ERP issues.
· Prepare journal entries by providing and maintaining detail records and files
· Reconcile fruit and packaging inventories, and general ledger accounts monthly.
· Prepare and support internal and external annual audit; timely compliance with all internal and external reporting requirements.
· Plays a key role in month end and year end closing process.
· Special projects, ad-hoc reports, administrative tasks as assigned.

Experience and Qualifications Sought Include
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, with a minimum of 5 years related experience in grower accounting.
· Working knowledge of GAAP and internal controls.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Grower Accountant is responsible for assisting the Finance Department with Accounting for Growers. This professional level position will ensure accurate and timely payments to growers as well as perform proper complex accounting of all grower-related costs, crop investment activities through grower settlement, and accurate and timely account reconciliations. Responsible for providing support and information sharing to varying inter-department, company subsidiaries and cross-functional groups. - Responsible for development and monitoring complex accounting transactions in multiple countries;
- Responsible for the documentation and reconciliation of accounting activities from custom developed grower settlement application;
- Responsible for weekly calculations, system inputs and reconciliation of charges to the growers;
- Will be cross-trained and perform necessary weekly grower settlement and other accounting functions for the Grower Accountant Staff and Grower Accounting Manager during absences and vacation.

Cross-functional Communication and Support
- Provides guidance, support and direction to other functional groups pertaining to the grower accounting and inventory processes;
- Communicates to and education employees on the internal control requirements pertaining to these same functions.
Accounting Department Support
- Coordinate and assist with the month end close process to ensure the reporting of accurate and timely month end results;
- Submit correcting journal entries to the general accounting group for posting and prepare accounts receivable general ledger related account reconciliations;
- Will be cross-trained in other accounting functions as required.

This professional level position will ensure accurate and timely payments to growers as well as perform proper complex accounting of all grower-related costs, crop investment activities through grower settlement, and accurate and timely account reconciliations. Responsible for providing support and information sharing to varying inter-department, company subsidiaries and cross-functional groups. Under general supervision, will perform routine and non-routine grower accounting activities. Responsible for specialized calculations, ledger postings and numerous accounting functions as they relate to grower accounting and the settlement process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Grower Accounting
- Responsible for development and implementation of accounting processes for Ocean Mist Farms’ complex shared equity growing deals;
- Responsible for development and monitoring complex accounting transactions in multiple countries;
- Responsible for the documentation and reconciliation of accounting activities from custom developed grower settlement application;
- Responsible for weekly calculations, system inputs and reconciliation of charges to the growers;
- Will be cross-trained and perform necessary weekly grower settlement and other accounting functions for the Grower Accountant Staff and Grower Accounting Manager during absences and vacation.

Cross-functional Communication and Support
- Provides guidance, support and direction to other functional groups pertaining to the grower accounting and inventory processes;
- Communicates to and education employees on the internal control requirements pertaining to these same functions.
Accounting Department Support
- Coordinate and assist with the month end close process to ensure the reporting of accurate and timely month end results;
- Submit correcting journal entries to the general accounting group for posting and prepare accounts receivable general ledger related account reconciliations;
- Will be cross-trained in other accounting functions as required.

- Analysis
- Prepare necessary analytical schedules to support the month end results;
- Prepare requested management reporting and analysis as it relates to crop investment for the Finance and Production departments;
- Prepare ad hoc reporting as requested by management as it relates to crop investments.
- Prepare complex Board Reports and submit for review and update Board Summaries once reviewed

Process Improvement
- Will work in cross-functional teams as required to improve the processed used to complete the responsibilities of the position and other areas in the company.
- Assist Invoicing: Act as primary backup to the Invoicing Specialist;
- Perform AP vouchers for GA Direct Entry Generator process for necessary growers.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
- Minimum of Associates Degree focused in accounting or finance required.
- Equivalent experience is desired; not required.
- Requires continuing education as needed for role and other job-related areas.
- A minimum of 4 years of grower accounting experience is desired, not required.
- A minimum of 4 years of comparable experience in related agriculture accounting is highly desired.
- Advanced knowledge of spreadsheet applications (MS Excel) is highly desired.
- Advanced proficiency in various programs and Famous database (desired), including MS Office (Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint, Adobe) applications and internet research skills is highly desired.
- A self-starter, ensure delegated tasks are completed with minimal supervisor follow up. Proactively communicate task and project updates to supervisor;
- Bilingual in English and Spanish is required;
- Discreet handling of all business matters;
- Coordinate workflow effectively, efficiently, and neatly with a high level of attention to detail as well as superior organizational skills.
- Excellent analytical skills are an integral component is carrying out required duties and responsibilities associated with this position.
- California driver’s license and the ability to be covered under company-sponsored vehicle insurance programs are required.
- A valid passport and the ability to travel internationally without restrictions are also required.
- Work under general supervision; however, requires the exercise of discretion and independent judgment on significant matters.
- Must be able to work both independently and as part of a team; identify and resolve complex problems; and manage multiple high visibility projects;
- Ability to manage a project from its initiation to completion with minimal supervision.
- Ability to carry out defined procedures and duties with specific instructions.
- Ability to learn new duties with minimal repetition.
- Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff as well as outside clients and vendors and maintain effective working relationships with all parties.
- Strong ability to communicate verbally and comprehend verbal and written communication and instructions
- Must keep Grower Accounting Manager informed on all matters that directly affect the department.
