Position Description

The Head Grower is accountable for establishing, monitoring, and controlling the best growing conditions for all crops. Manages and leads staff engaged in the growing, care and maintenance of the crops. Directs the application of technical procedures, timing and metering devices that control frequency, amount, and type of nutrient applications; regulate humidity, ventilation, temperature, amount of light; and dispense fertilizers and pesticides.  Monitors crop development and sets strategies for maximizing weekly and cycle output.

Responsibilities

• Discusses plant growing activities with management to plan for growing activities that are consistent with planned production schedules and sowing schedules.
• Monitors growing conditions and oversees changes in humidity, temperature, and cultivation procedures to ensure conformance with quality control standards.
• Sets the Integrated Pest and Disease Management strategies and programs.
• Maintains inventory of needed growing supplies such as fertilizers, pesticides, and growing media.
• Maintains records of growing techniques (Growing Blueprint) and production; reviews records and reports to identify trends and to forecast future space and production needs.
• Trains employees in growing techniques and activities as well in pesticide and safety training.
• Maintenance of records as required by Federal or State regulations.
• Assists the General Manager with other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Abilities and Qualifications

• Minimum of 5 years of experience years of related work experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Skills, Abilities and Qualifications

• Advanced courses on business administration, manufacturing operations
• Lean six sigma Green Belt certification

Educational Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Agriculture or related field.
