Purpose
The role ensures that the credit union remains compliant with all aspects of consumer protection laws and the rules and regulations governing the operations of the credit union.
Consults and guides the credit union in the establishment of appropriate controls to mitigate potential compliance and legal risks.
Ensures compliance with the credit union’s MRB program.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintains a high level of confidentiality relative to any information received directly or indirectly at all times
- Performs the daily activities of Compliance department to include BSA, fielding requests/calls from all business units of the CU
- Performs ongoing research for regulatory changes, advises of emerging compliance issues and risks, and consults and guides management and staff in the establishment of appropriate controls to mitigate potential risks
- Performs appropriate research and provides answers and/or solutions to compliance and legal related questions from across the organization, in a timely manner
- Assist in the ongoing development and implementation of compliance review and assessment processes to ensure compliance at all levels, including accuracy of policies, disclosures, forms, marketing materials, etc.
- Develops and implements a system of internal controls and procedures for complying with rules and regulations as part of the Compliance Program
- May serves as a liaison between MACFCU and its attorneys and law enforcement
- Coordinates the timely return of documents formally requested by attorneys and law enforcement as part of their ongoing investigations and proceedings, as well as coordinate the security of such requests
- Represents the Compliance team on various projects and ensures compliance when new products are being added or significant changes are being made to current systems
- Assists in monitoring vendor contracts
- Follows policy and procedures related to Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Customer Identification Program (CIP) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) daily to ensure compliance with current regulations.
- Reviews the credit union’s policies and when, applicable, procedures as they relate to internal controls
- Develops and coordinates training and education for employees and management
- Assists with the preparation of necessary documents to file bond claims and/or any other reports needed for related agencies
- Assists in evaluating significant or new processes and operations to ensure the necessary control processes associated with their development, implementation, or expansion are in place.
- Performs tasks related to the audit function to aid in risk mitigation
- Conducts special audits as requested by the CEO, CRO, or Supervisory Committee; assists in the investigation of suspected activities/irregularities within the organization and notifies the CEO and CRO of the findings, as appropriate
- Provides oversight and, as applicable may perform the duties of completing the quarterly 5300 report to ensure credit union compliance
- Review and monitor state licensing requirements for various account types including cannabis business accounts
- Monitor and review day-to-day transactions related to cannabis business accounts
- Ensure accuracy, timeliness, and complete documentation of internal monitoring review(s) for high-risk accounts
- Provide monitoring reports to CRO as requested
- Completes mandatory BSA/AML annual training
- Maintains CUNA BSACS certification
- Completes CUCE certification within 12 months; maintains certification
- Non-Exempt - Ability to work your schedule with little or no overtime and complete tasks assigned.
