GENERAL SUMMARY:
The Vegetable Production Manager will perform vital functions of the operation in a manner that is
economically successful, strategically oriented, technically innovative and safely executed. The manager
will be responsible for all aspects of the production and growing operations, managing the ground
preparation and planning process as well as executing the day to day harvest and post-harvest of the
crops.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The Production Manager will evaluate, plan, organize, and manage the
production program. The manager will provide leadership and coordination of general farming
administration, accounting, budgeting, and planning of our continued development and growth . The
following are essential duties and responsibilities:
- Budget and manage the program to ensure efficient/profitable operations and ongoing fiscal
responsibilities as well as assist with strategic and operational planning;
- Direct all activities necessary to operate and support the program at maximum efficiencies which
includes, planting, irrigation, application/pest management, harvest and post-harvest;
- Ensures practices and protocols contribute towards consistent and premium quality of the crop and
contributes towards profitability and growth of the company;
- Drives a Food Safety, Safety & Quality culture within the business;
- Responsible for achieving, sustaining, and continuously improving product quality & quality systems,
personnel safety, food safety, personnel development, and financial results;
- Meticulous attention to detail
- All other duties as assigned.
SUMMARY: The Scaroni Family of Companies an industry leader and innovator through its Mexican
growing and operations affiliate, Harvest Tek de Mexico (HVTMX.) HVTMX is seeking a Grower-Farm
Manager for its Baja based farming operation.
This position’s core focus is on farming, and providing a passion and deep expertise in every aspect of
growing vegetable crops, including all cultural aspects, pest control, irrigation technologies and specialized
equipment use, all tied together with sophisticated information systems. Our team is growing and currently
looking for a Farm Manager for its farming operations in and around Baja California.
Reporting Relationship: The Farm Manager will report directly to the VP of Production for the Scaroni
Family of Companies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
We believe “showing up everyday” is the foundational core value a Grower Production Manager must
possess and live by for his / her success in this position. The Farm Manager will evaluate, plan, organize,
and manage all farming and harvesting operations including providing leadership and “hands on”
coordination of general farming, its related administration, accounting, budgeting, and planning of the
companies continued development, farming and harvesting fresh vegetables. The following are essential
duties and responsibilities:
- Assist with strategic and operational planning;
- Responsible for overseeing the continued planting and development of approximately 2,000
acres of leafy green vegetables ;
- Direct all activities necessary to operate and support the farms/ranches at maximum efficiency;
- Direct and coordinate overall operations of the department which include farm development,
irrigation, application/pest management,pruning, training and harvesting;
- Recruit, train, develop and manage farming personnel;
- Manage all labor for farming and harvesting operations;
- Contribute towards profitability and growth of the company;
- Work with other departments and outside contractors to optimize efficiency of farming
operations;
- Ensure practices and protocols contribute towards consistent and premium quality of crop;
- Manage chemical applications as prescribed by PCA;
- Manage maintenance, repair and replacement of all farming structures, equipment, and
supplies;
- Manage harvest intervals with Shippers, Partners and packinghouse / cooler interaction; and,
- Ensure compliance with all State, and Federal OSHA, EPA, USDA, food safety, and all other
applicable laws and regulations.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years experience with planning, farming, harvesting, and post-harvest crop management;
- Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in an agricultural field of study or equivalent experience;
- Possession of a CDL and an acceptable driving record insurable by the company’s insurance
policy;
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
- Required ability to effectively and positively lead, motivate, and communicate to employees in
English and Spanish;
- Knowledge in food safety, HACCP, GMPs and related protocols;
- Effective and proficient data/spreadsheet analysis, reporting, and communication skills;
- Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple responsibilities and tasks; and,
- Ability to work extensive hours, weekends, and be very flexible.
