About This Role
We are seeking a professional Director of Extraction and Formulation in a highly impactful role to lead the vision, strategy and execution of extract product development for the company’s entry into the
Oklahoma medical cannabis market.
The Director will facilitate and supervise the initial establishment of commercial extraction production processes and product offerings while collaborating with Executive team on all executive decisions pertaining to the product planning and future product development strategies of the company.
The Director will maintain responsibilities for outlining and identifying key product progressions within the market as well as procurement and processing strategies to ensure that the product resources are aligned with the company’s production needs.
Key Aspects of this Position Include:
- Fixed contract period of 6 to 18 months of engagement (negotiable).
- Developing and formulating a range of extract products intended to be market leaders within the Oklahoma medical cannabis market.
- Compensation for the creation, training and guidance of production points and all other
Intellectual Properties that will remain with the company upon the completion of the contracted
services – Executive team will maintain sole executive team of all IP and SKUs developed specifically for the company.
- Lead time would be for initial trial batches expected by October or November of 2022 (Q4).
- The company will be utilizing the Luna IO hydrocarbon Extractor for primary extraction.
- Experience with hydrocarbon extraction preferred but not required.
Director of Extraction and Formulation
The Director of Extraction and Formulation will facilitate and supervise the process of commercial extraction production for the company. The Director is responsible for gathering critical data to evaluate each process and present weekly productivity reports to Executive team. The Director will be required to maintain compliance with state guidelines and manage operations in accordance with company standards to meet production goals. This position is responsible for the development of product formulas and Standard Operating Procedures for production and operation of equipment (SOPs) and for integrating the proprietary processing techniques they develop to maintain a competitive advantage amongst cannabis processors around the country.
The ideal candidate will have experience in process chemistry design, process related research and development, laboratory equipment troubleshooting, analytical chemistry, laboratory design, with a robust understanding of terpene and cannabinoid properties and behavior, influence, preservation techniques and separation chemistry. Similar experience in other highly regulated industries will also be considered.
Production Responsibilities
- Collaborating with executive team in developing product offerings.
- Develop new proprietary formulas and SOPs so new formulas can be reproduced consistently and efficiently
- Train and educate executive team on new product and SOP development.
- Oversee daily laboratory activities for extraction and processing of cannabis products.
- Provide expert recommendations on specific cannabis product formulations to meet the needs of patients and strategic approaches set forth by Executive team.
- Ensuring that the cannabis product resources meet the company’s short and long-term needs.
- Outline the goals for product research and development.
- Create timelines for the product development and deployment of all products offered.
- Purchasing and inspecting raw materials and input to fulfill company's inventory needs.
- Managing product budgets and time frames.
- Staying informed of industry trends and developments.
- Ensuring all practices adhere to regulatory requirements.
- Assess the product inventory requirements and coordinate with Executive team to ensure an adequate supply of cannabis is available to meet all facets of the company’s strategic approach.
- Provide weekly, monthly, annual reporting on production of medical cannabis products, projections and compliance.
- Manage vendor relationships and remain current for the maintenance of equipment to ensure quality of equipment conditions.
- Coordinate with state-approved laboratories to provide samples for regular testing of plant material and extracted product and ensure all results are documented in compliance with state regulations including in the state seed-to-sale tracking system, METRC.
- Ensure that sanitation, safety and security protocols are strictly enforced throughout the facility in accordance with the company’s Standard Operating Procedures and state regulations.
- Forecast and source in conjunction with Executive team to ensure that products are produced in accordance with demand.
- Manage extraction and processing facility personnel, ensuring all Standard Operating
Procedures are strictly adhered to.
- Ensure all extraction and processing personnel are fully trained on the company’s procedures and policies and reinforced or updated as needed.
- Design statistically grounded studies to optimize each individual piece of equipment and process to meet efficiency, efficacy and quality targets set forth by Executive team.
- Follow and ensure strict safety procedures and safety checks.
- Detail extraction parameters, interpret extraction data and adjust parameters as necessary.
- Maintain rigorous operational logs detailing extraction parameters, results, equipment and laboratory maintenance and cleaning tasks among other responsibilities to ensure that required tasks are being efficiently performed with properly recorded results.
- Create, implement and maintain a cleaning schedule, ensuring that equipment, tools and workspaces maintain a high level of cleanliness.
- Staying current with emerging technical developments within the industry, particularly time management and reliability enhancements.
- Properly use standard office equipment, computer equipment and software including word processing, spreadsheet applications and electronic mail.
- Other related tasks as necessary.
The Director will also be one of the most important members of the management team and will be primarily responsible for overseeing compliance within a company’s daily operations and ensuring all policies and procedures are in full compliance with all state laws and regulations and regulatory requirements set forth by the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana Authority (OMMA).
The Director will communicate directly with Executive team regarding important issues and potential/cited violations. In order to maintain the utmost safety and compliance in the laboratory, the candidate should demonstrate previous managerial experience and be able to understand and work within the strict confines of the rules and regulations set forth by OMMA and other local authorities.
Compliance Responsibilities
- Defining the necessary level of knowledge on existing and emerging regulatory compliance requirements across the company.
- Maintain and supervise all aspects of METRC data entry and inventory control.
- Developing the annual compliance work plan that reflects the company's unique characteristics.
- Periodically revising the compliance practices considering regulatory changes.
- Guiding in a productive, professional way, the compliance of facility staff.
- Overseeing and monitoring the implementation of compliance strategies.
- Providing guidance, advice and/or training and educational programs, to improve employee’s understanding of related laws and regulatory requirements.

- Preparing and presenting clear and concise compliance reports.
- Interacting with regulators on compliance issues.
- Coordinating efforts related to audits, reviews and examinations.
- Developing policies and programs that encourage managers and employees to report suspected theft or diversion and other improprieties, without fear of retaliation.
- Coordinating internal compliance review and monitoring activities, including periodic reviews of departments.
