Student Assistant Specialist
Location: Sarasota, FL area
Pay: $22.17 per hour

Position Summary:
First Step of Sarasota is looking for an experienced and compassionate Student Assistant Specialist to join our organization. As a Student Assistant Specialist, you will be expected to provide behavioral health prevention and early intervention to include school wide universal prevention and consultation to adolescents, adults, and families in order to improve psychosocial functioning within the academic setting.
Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate dependability by arriving to assigned school shortly before each schools start time and is on site during the school day.
- Maintain an overall work attitude of cooperation and professionalism in all interactions with school and District personnel, agency staff, and community professionals; actively participate in school required meetings that support integrated academic model to provide comprehensive care for clients.
- Assist the primary care team in developing care management processes such as the use of guidelines, disease management techniques, case management, and student education to improve self-management of chronic disease.
- Provide behavioral health screenings of clients with suspected substance use and mental health disorders; assist in the detection of “at risk” students and development of plans to prevent further psychological or academic deterioration; evaluate crisis situations and apply appropriate intervention for substance abuse.
- Presents risk reducing behavioral information to at-risk populations and individuals by explaining behavior options and interpretations; consult with students, families, and staff, regarding prevention, and service enhancement techniques for substance abuse disorders.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, advising management on needed actions
- Maintains customer confidence and protects operations by keeping client information confidential, following established confidentiality policy and procedures, maintaining professional boundaries with client
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in counseling, social work, psychology, human development, child and family studies or a related human services field
- 2+ years of experience in substance use prevention and/or behavioral health field with children and adolescents
- Familiarity with evidence-based models and mental health screening tools for anxiety, depression, suicide, cannabis, alcohol use
- Excellent organizational skills and communication skills
- Knowledge of various presentation software and multimedia approaches to engage youth
