More than 30+ days
We’re recruiting for a dynamic, entrepreneurial Managing Editor to lead and build our coverage of state politics and policy as state legislatures become ever more important centers of power in the national political debate. POLITICO has long been a leader in state-based political coverage, with robust teams in California, New York, Florida, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Illinois, and our national and state-based readers alike are increasingly focused on the decisions made in state capitols. Moreover, this editor will propose ways for POLITICO to break new ground in state-focused coverage and in enriching the national report, as well as lead efforts to build out our presence outside of Washington. This position reports to the Executive Editor.
What You’ll Need:
- Significant experience editing policy, legislative and/or political coverage at the state or national level.
- An entrepreneurial spirit, and a vision for how to build a high-impact and sustainable news operation
- Strong writing and editing skills, and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom.
- Excellent communication skills, and the ability to work and coordinate with editors and reporters in different cities.
- Proven experience as a manager and the ability to work effectively with teams based remotely.
- Rigorous commitment to nonpartisan journalism.
