Government Relations Assistant
The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) represents independent insurance agencies and their employee-agents in all 50 states, Puerto Rico, and the District of Columbia. PIA’s government relations team advocates for its members on a variety of issues including healthcare, flood insurance, the business of cannabis insurance, and the terrorism risk insurance program.
Position Summary:
The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA) has an opening for a highly motivated individual to join our government relations team in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.
The primary responsibilities of the Government Relations Assistant will be to oversee the PIA Political Action Committee (PIAPAC), help lead our grassroots efforts, and assist with communications and social media advocacy. PIA offers a competitive starting salary and excellent benefits package.
Position Responsibilities:
- Oversee the PIAPAC
- Coordinate with vendors to ensure accurate Federal Election Commission compliance and reporting for the PIAPAC.
- Implement fundraising initiatives to raise money for the PIAPAC.
- Serve as the staff liaison to the PIAPAC Board of Directors.
- Help Lead PIA’s Grassroots Efforts
- Lead the association’s grassroots efforts by developing and disseminating targeted, grassroots political action campaigns.
- Assist in executing a successful fly-in.
- Communications
- Lead social media efforts for the government relations team.
- Develop content for the PIA Advocacy blog and other PIA publications.
- Draft press releases as needed, and coordinate distribution with the Communications Department.
- Create videos that highlight PIA’s advocacy efforts.
- Advocacy and Research
- Research insurance issues and write policy memos, issue papers, letters to Congress, summaries of Congressional testimony, and hearing summaries.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of relevant work experience
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to manage projects from start to finish and prioritize projects with minimal oversight
- Good written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to travel to PIA’s annual fall conference
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary will be commensurate with experience. PIA provides a robust benefits package including health, dental, and vision insurance; PTO includes paid vacation leave, paid sick leave, and federal holiday leave.
