Grow North seeks a Talent Cultivation Specialist (internal name). This is a full-time position. The Talent Cultivation Specialist is essential in building the forward movement of business recovery and attracting workers to our region. The position will give the right candidate an impressive base in economic development, workforce development, and rural prosperity.
This position will be serving the eight counties and three Tribal Nations within the Grow North region within the counties of Florence, Forest, Langlade, Lincoln, Oconto, Oneida, Marinette, Vilas in Wisconsin. This is a flex position with most of the work being able to be completed remotely, but travel to businesses in the region is part of the position. Therefore, living in the eight county region is required. This is a great anchor job for an individual looking to move back to this portion of the Northwoods. Relocation benefits are not available, but we will work to connect or reconnect you to our local community to make your "landing" in the region welcoming.
This position’s main duty will be serving as the business facing point-person for Inspire Wisconsin participating school districts in the Grow North region and the North Central Wisconsin Regional Pathways program working in two regions of economic development: Grow North (Northeast WI) and Centergy (Central WI). The Talent Cultivation Specialist will work with economic development partners, industry and community leaders, and K-12 school districts in building deeper connections with students as they explore their potential career pathway decisions, ultimately encouraging local relationships that can lead to expanded employment opportunities, better living wages, and a potential reversal of “rural flight” in younger generations.
Duties will Duties include three areas of focus that intertwine:
Inspire / Xello (Grow North footprint only)
- Talent Cultivation Specialist oversees the business facing portion of Xello, WI’s software tool used in Academic and Career Planning (ACP) profiles. The Talent Cultivation will work with businesses in the CESA 9 region to build partnerships with participating schools. Individual will onboard businesses to the platform, communicate with school districts, facilitate strategic meetings between stakeholders, and build connections out as the program develops alongside other Xello initiatives around the state.
- Support Business – School District connections in supplementing already available career exploration opportunities as appropriate for schools, which could include job shadows (virtual, and later in person), mentorship, Career Based Learning Services, and more which extend past the software into personal interactions.
Pathways (Centergy and Grow North Regions)
- With CESA partners, convene industry leaders to review and regionalize state approved Pathways to the degree the grant requires (two in this first year, at least one additional Pathway per year). Currently convenings and prep meetings are virtual.
- Deepen the relationships and support the talent and skill development needs of sectors interfacing in the Pathways process. This may include industry specific alliances and /or the recognition of growth potential of such collaborations and alliances in the region. Currently all meetings are happening virtually.
- Support the Pathways program lead in any reporting and invoicing for grant reimbursements throughout the program.
- As of Fall 2022, interface with UW Stevens Point and their Forestry Career Pathways work, giving specific focus to the connections between K-12 students and forestry related businesses.
Grow North Talent Cultivation (Grow North footprint only)
- Manage the Talent Cultivation communication for all Talent Cultivation projects (Pathways, Inspire / Xello, general Talent Cultivation) via newsletters, social media, and educational / informational outreach sessions
- Act as the regional point person for Career and Skills development, promoting new tools to the region’s businesses and workforce. This includes unique incentive package solutions for small business, managing the Childcare Task Force, and keeping an eye on developing Skills training grants and programs, etc
- Liaise with Chambers, HR groups, Industry Associations, and more in understanding their constituent’s needs while working together to present solutions, create connections, and attract resources that will further prosperity in the region
Internally, it is described such that the Talent Cultivation Specialist oversees programs that sit together as a toolkit for Talent Cultivation and economic development in the region. Those tools can be used for businesses separately or all together, given the appropriateness for the business.
A minimum of five years’ experience in related fields required. Life experience and/or credentialing in the field are a plus. Experience in the following areas will support a strong Talent Cultivation Specialist. Experience in these areas is of benefit but not necessary:
- Grant management
- Meeting facilitation
- Content Management System (CMS) oversight
- Experience overseeing social media/ e-newsletter content creation
- Program design and operation (non-profit context)
- Experience in educational settings to understand dynamics / translate business need to the business sector
- Research and professional experience in economic development, educational development, workforce skills development, rural community engagement and other related topics
This position is an opportunity for the right individual to build out a new resource for the region, given the growing focus on talent/ workforce development and introduction of the Pathways program to the region (piloted in other areas previously). This is a position that balances the capacity to build out relationships, correctly file and track data, and commit to building a brand-new economic development support for our rural region.
