I. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The person in this position is responsible for coordinating with the Growing Supervisor (Head Grower) and other lateral team members to organize and evaluate the weekly tasks that prepare product for market. This position has some supervisory responsibilities and is accountable for all aspects of plant health that span the early stages of plant growth to the shipping of the final product.
II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Has direct responsibility for day-to-day operations in the greenhouse
· Responsible for the quality, efficiency and completeness of tasks
· Responsible and accountable for the overall condition and quality of plants using IPM, nutrition, environment, controlled growth, moisture, scheduling and crop timing as measurements
· Creates and organizes all records for future use
· Trains and teaches new and seasonal team members and effectively manages daily tasks
· Uses a “Hands On” monitoring method with all growing environments and communicates observations to the Head Grower
· Accountable for coordination of spraying programs for pesticide control, disease control and plant growth regulation
· Organizes crops in the greenhouse in a way that provides all environmental requirements, makes best use of greenhouse equipment and irrigation systems, and plans for efficiency on all scheduled crop tasks and shipping
· Supervises and assists with spacing, hanging baskets, consolidating, dead heading and de-blooming, cut-back, pinching, cleaning and dumping
· Conducts a monitoring system for the water quality program and soil testing
· Monitors adherence to rules, regulations, and safety procedures
· Delivers customer service that presents the image, culture and values of the Berns organization
· Ensures order fulfillment by verifying that correct material has been pulled in proper quantities
· Organizes, prioritizes, and implements the logistics and delivery processes, and supervises delivery crews
· Ensures efficient collaboration and co-ordination between departments and divisions
III. ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS:
· Attends appropriate seminars, conferences and other learning opportunities to build professional skills as well as plant and growing knowledge
· Supervises and assists with daily cleanup of all greenhouse areas
· Assists with development and implementation of training manuals and programs
· Assists with acquiring and maintaining inventory of all related supplies, equipment and resources
· Communicates team members to establish daily schedules

IV. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
· Ethical, dependable, honest and trustworthy
· Knowledge of annual plants that can be successfully grown in this area a must
· Strong leadership skills, self-motivated, takes initiative
· Horticultural degree or equivalent experience
· Possess knowledge and experience in greenhouse production and manufacturing processes and techniques
· Previous experience with material resources used in horticulture, with quality systems and standards, with safety standards and compliance and with process improvement techniques
· Working knowledge of the machinery and tools used in the production processes
· Possess the technical skills of a grower in production greenhouse environment
· 3-4 years working in a production greenhouse with management training
· Maintains the ability to plan and multi-task, and has the flexibility to change direction as priorities change
· Successful leadership with a team-oriented focus
· Proficient with Microsoft Office programs
· Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
· Ability to talk, see and hear with or without reasonable accommodations
· Walking, bending, carrying, pulling, pushing, lifting, kneeling and climbing

V. JOB ENVIRONMENT:
This job is mainly performed indoors in a greenhouse and occasionally outdoors. There are temperature extremes that range from very hot and humid in the summer months to much cooler in the winter. There is some exposure to fumes, chemicals, fertilizers, dirt, dust, pollen, seeds, noise and water. It is necessary to be in good physical shape, enjoy moderate to high amounts of physical labor and be able to work in greenhouses where the temperatures can often reach 100 degrees or more. While the job requires mostly standing and walking, there is also an equal amount of handling, pulling, pushing, bending and reaching. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, see and hear.
