This is a remote position but the ideal candidate will be located in California.
Position Overview:
- Ability to apply advanced concepts in any life sciences and medical device fields and desire to learn to apply advanced concepts in cannabis and plant medicine
- Studying and analyzing technical documents to assess patentability, novelty and inventiveness
- Drafting, filing and prosecuting patent and trademark applications
- Managing domestic and international patent portfolios and deadlines
- Preparing substantive client correspondence
Skills and Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have 2 to 4 years of relevant patent experience in the life sciences.
- Registered to practice before the USPTO with a strong background in life sciences
- Excellent research and written and verbal communication skills, including use of proper grammar as well as formatting and proofreading documents before submitting for review
- Strong attention to detail, excellent analyzing, issue spotting, and organizational skills
- Ability to problem solve independently first before asking for help
- Ability to learn new systems quickly and use various software platforms including Microsoft Office, project management tools, docketing software, trademark search software
Requirements:
- Strong internet and phone connection (provided by employee). Laptop provided by Aura IP Law.
- A professional workspace, including a space that is free of unnecessary distraction during all calls and business casual attire for external video chat meetings
- Compliance with firm procedures and conventions (e.g., file naming and saving conventions, firm standard operating procedures, etc.)
- Willingness to work with minimal administrative support
- Generally available Mondays through Fridays between the hours of 10 am and 3 pm PST with the remaining hours being flexible
- Managerial test required before starting the position
Compensation:
- This is a full-time employee position. You will be required to track your billable and non-billable time and meet certain metrics for billable time and time actually billed to clients.
- Hourly rate is between $50-65 / hour, depending on agent or attorney and experience

We are looking for an entry level legal assistant with experience or interest in patents, trademarks and/or IP agreements. We are prepared to train the right person. Positive, can-do attitude and past work experience in any area is a must. This is a remote work position.
- Ability to follow firm procedures and checklists
- Reviewing and cataloging firm emails
- Saving documents to files (all electronic)
- Managing attorney calendars and scheduling appointments
- Assisting attorneys and firm administrator in managing emails, dockets and work loads
- Time entry and billing
- Preparing client correspondence for attorney review
- Filing patent, trademark, and copyright documents
- Conducting trademark searches
Skills and Qualifications:
- A 2-year or 4-year degree
- 1-4 years of work experience in any area
- Excellent research and written and verbal communication skills, including use of proper grammar as well as formatting and proofreading documents before submitting for review
- Strong attention to detail, excellent analyzing, issue spotting, and organizational skills
